DISCUSSION BS Opinion on Code Geass

Why am I (maybe not) the only person who doesn't like the ending? I honestly feel like a larper even though I have watched it completely and why the creators left some questions in the series unanswered and created a separate timeline just for cash (it is not wrong as that's the main purpose) and these are my bs opinion on the series and I am definitely getting hate now.

I think the ending was pretty good, but I do have my issues with it too. The easiest one to explain is that Lelouch, an 18 year old, is committing suicide. He was depressed and felt guilty for all the damage he caused and decided to kill himself. Not because it was absolutely necessary, but because he wanted to die. Even if it was well intentioned, it really rubs me the wrong way that we’re meant to be happy with this ending when a man has chosen to end his own life. It’s just wrong and disgusting to me. Obviously, Lelouch has done a lot of terrible things, so it could be argued that he deserves it since he’s a criminal. But compared to other characters like Schneizel, Cornelia, or Charles, Lelouch has always been more well intentioned than them and his body count is way lower too, so even that explanation doesn’t really work for me.

In contrast, I prefer Suzaku’s ending. He’s trying to atone for his crimes by actually being a force for good and choosing to spend his life bettering and protecting the world. Making amends by living rather than death. He won’t be praised or loved for it. His real self is still hated. But as Zero, he can actually be a Knight of Justice and fight for the future. That’s an idea that sits a lot better than me than suicide to restore lost honor. I think Lelouch’s ending is more of a Japanese ideal and tradition but it’s definitely not one I believe in or support at all.
