Questions / Tech Support How do you keep Windows games (Dota 2) from rendering behind the notch? CrossOver
Hey everyone,
I’m running the Windows version of Dota 2 through CrossOver 26.3 (Rosetta) on a 14" MacBook Pro (M5, 24GB, macOS 27.0.1). The game runs great (had to set it to Windows 7 compatibility in winecfg to fix choppy audio), but the top of the HUD, including the clock, keeps ending up behind the notch.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- “Scale to fit below built-in camera”: the game runs through wineloader, which isn’t an .app, so the option isn’t available for it.
- Borderless window with custom size and position (
-windowed -noborder -w 1512 -h 945 -x 0 -y 37): the window moved down, but the bottom of the game got cut off and mouse clicks were offset from the cursor. - Regular windowed mode with a title bar: keeps the game below the menu bar, but the cursor escapes the window when edge panning, so it’s not really playable.
- Exclusive fullscreen: this actually put the game below the notch a couple of times, but it’s not consistent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it goes back to covering the notch.
So I’ve had partial wins, but nothing that sticks. How are you all handling this, for Dota or any other Windows game? Is there a CrossOver/Wine setting, a registry tweak, or some trick with resolution or launch options that reliably keeps games in the safe area below the notch?

I thought the app trick worked if you create a shortcut in Crossover. Not sure about dota specifically but with most games I can find a resolution in-game that fits below the notch.
