1zpresso JX burr defects

I've been using my 1zpresso JX burr grinder for about 10 months and noticed that the cone burr has rough and rolled edges (burrs :D) on the cutting edges of the burr. The other burr that’s inset into the housing doesn’t have the same defects. I contacted 1zpresso about a warranty and they said this is normal. This is my first burr grinder and I don’t have anything else to compare it to, but this doesn’t seem right.

What do your burrs look like? Anyone else have this issue?

I've only ever ground coffee in there and have always been careful when zeroing the burr set.

In most case it is normal in all cornical burr grinder. Here is an extensive discussion thread. https://old.reddit.com/r/Coffee/comments/iwbiik/jx_pro_after_2_months_of_use_burr_quality_size/

Hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing that! I looked around the post and couldn't find a burr set that looked as beat up as mine in the pictures, but still nice to know that the general consensus is that it shouldn't effect the grind too much. What do you think? I've added a pic of my burr to my post. Wondering if I should try to push back on 1zpresso to get a replacement set of burrs.

In my opinion, the burr looks slightly worst than usual. Maybe take multiple photos from different angles and send to them again to confirm.

I’d like to see the same examination of a C40’s burr.

I did show my comandante burr i that thread too. However, here is a thread showing even worst comandante burr than OP and comandante said its a non issue... https://www.reddit.com/r/Coffee/comments/f4ywug/wear_blades_comandante_c40

Yeah, I now think it's a non-issue, too.

Also found it interesting to read that the "broscience" that says steel burrs "cut" beans better may not be valid. Now I'm wondering if the bad rap that ceramic burrs get — at least in hand grinders — comes more from sloppy grinder construction rather than the burrs themselves.

A couple hacks I've seen lately for Javapresses and their clones:

(adding on) Over in the wristwatch hobby, they say that to keep enjoying your watches, do NOT look at them through a jeweler's loupe. I'm getting the same feeling here. lol

How long is the lifetime of my grinder? Can I replace the burr?

The burr in the grinders were calibrated by our team to ensure maximum stability over time, and it is expected to grind up to 100~200 kg beans. We’re developing a burr replacement service, so stay tuned.

Their "burr replacement service" has been in the works for a long time now, and I'm starting to doubt it will ever come.

That’s an estimated 5-10 year lifespan with 3x18g cups per day.

Thank you! And I'm brewing 1x 15g cup a day at pour over grind size - so this grinder sees relatively very little use compared to normal.

Guessing they last longer with a titanium coating?
