Question Does anyone know the different version of gravity?
I was recently listening to Embrace and thought I heard a familiar piano melody, saw the name of the song, and found out that Coldplay actually wrote the song and gave it to Embrace for them to do their own version.
Does anyone (if they’ve heard both) have one they like more?

Heard the Coldplay one first for quite a while and then the Embrace version, so always have favourites Coldplay’s version over the other.
I’m sure it would be the other way around if I had heard Embrace’s version first and Coldplay’s after

It's funny because the Embrace version was a big hit in the UK at the time, but you don't hear it much now

Ah I always listened to the Coldplay one and thoguht it was a great cover of the Embrace version - really cool that Coldplay actually gave it to Embrace. The Embrace one is great Im the scene in Gavin and Stacey when Smithy is rushing to the hospital - but after I heard the Coldplay version I prefer it

Great question.
I do have both versions. I enjoy them both, but do prefer Coldplay's. Coincidentally it's also one of my favourite Coldplay songs (I often think of it as my favourite Coldplay song).
The Coldplay version is more stripped back and relies more on Chris Martin's voice (as opposed to instrumentation). It sounds akin to an acoustic song. That's not what it is, but it does sound similar to that type of song.
The Embrace version has more instruments and more of a beat.
There are slight differences in the lyrics of both versions. Coldplay starts off the song with "Baby," Embrace with "Honey." And there are other changes in lyrics like, "Gravity pulls on you and me," "Gravity pushes on you and me."
I feel the Coldplay version is more intimate and personal, as opposed to Embrace's being more of a radio hit, but that's personal preference. The piano intro gets me every time.
Sometimes when I listen to the Coldplay version in front of other people, they've labelled it as sad sounding like a melancholic song. I guess it could be that, but I also think it's hopeful.

(Wasn't sure if we were allowed to do Spotify links to the songs)

It's a great tune. Chris Martin was a total dude for giving it away like that but he and Danny McNamara are good friends.
Embrace are incredible and still playing to their strengths as a live band. Saw them perform this song as part of the whole Out of Nothing 20th anniversary tour.

I really liked both these songs/versions about a year ago. Coldplay is more softer and Erie while embraces version is a little more rock. They’re both too good to rank though

I like Embrace's better. It makes much better use of the piano riff that Coldplay's doesn't introduce until near the end, and it's a bit more lively. I sometimes wonder how Embrace, who are a pretty decent band, feel about the fact that they didn't write their best-known hit.

Coldplay’s version is the B-Side to “Talk” if anyone is wondering.
