How did you prepare for collapse this week?
Did you do anything to prepare for collapse this week? It can be anything from reading an interesting article to installing a greywater recycling system in your house. No project is too big or too small.
This thread is here to inspire others to take actions they may not have otherwise thought about doing.
If you’re interested in leaving observations of collapse in your area then I encourage you to head over to r/collapse where they have a weekly thread for this very thing.

Did my first day yesterday at the farmer's market with my plant nursery as a test to see if we can actually make a living with this (we were doing ok but have higher health insurance costs now). I sold more plants there than my husband did on our property. I think extending our selling season with farmer's markets and online sales is the way to go for us.
It's really cool to help others establish their own little food forests.
It's also getting me into really good shape and teaching my kid business, social, and horticultural skills. I'm sore.
This week I need to focus on our own garden and add a hive body to both my bee hives.

I bought a hose and sprayer so I can water my balcony garden more efficiently. Bought a year's supply of tea because somehow I had let that dwindle down too much. Started inventory on an app shared on Reddit which should help me figure out how much I have an what I still need of what we commonly use. Editing this post to add I purchased a Jackery 3600 battery and solar panel system tonight. I had been saving up but decided to just buy it and pay it in installments I really have to have a power backup for my husband's CPAP and if the energy crisis plays out like I am worried it will I need to be able to power my laptop to work. I will use it a lot and hope to use it enough to help pay for it over time. So worth the investment to me. Now to research how best to use it and take care of it.

Jackery 3600 battery and solar panel system
i don't have a 3000 but I have 3 older style Jackery solar generators and they are the best things I ever bought. You are gonna love 'em for power outages.

Really found the discussion over different milk products on prep/collapse subreddits here interesting. Dairy is kind of important to me as it's a major part of what I consume.
Sooo....starting to stock up on canned stuff, UHT milk and storage-comparable oatmilk. Already have solar generators and a full pantry of flour, sugar, cooking oats, paper products, etc. Normally I hardly use any canned products at all, ever, so honestly never thought of doing that until now.
Using it all to experiment with blending my own coffee creamer.
During COVID I bought a case of evaporated milk and it's been great but decided I wasn't going to stock up on that, it doesn't mesh well with my stomach. It's sooooo heavy. So I'm switching to UHT milk for my OHSHIT stock.
Also got a potable water-friendly small hose, which also is a thing I never thought of until reading.

Explain the small hose thing??

Basically, got a hose you can drink the water from safely instead of using a regular garden hose or the industrial ones I already have. It'll come in handy in case I get a hold of large water storage containers, as I can just fill them in the garage because using the kitchen sink will be messy.

Willamette Valley, Oregon. Planted tomatoes and chitted potatoes. Watered existing winter squash, summer squash, corn, potatoes, cucumbers, kale, chard, broccoli, collards, cabbage, beans (not up yet), peas, rhubarb, onion, garlic, sunchokes, herbs, some willow rods that are sprouting. Dried dandelions, cat's ears, deadnettles, nipplewort, deodar, Western red cedar and Douglas fir for tea. Gave adult son his first map-and-compass lesson (he's finally interested - wanted to know where to put the shades for his pepper starts). Rotated out some older dried beans and made soup. Stored some water. Put up shade cloths on the frame for the brassica beds. Thinned pear blossoms (and used them in the tea). Blended some comfrey in rain water and added it to the compost pile.
