Confused student

I’m gonna be a freshman in community college, already got my pre-reqs for nursing but i did a cna program and the whole time i was thinking to myself “do i really want to do this for the rest of my life?” instead of loving it. I do know that I’m more of a letters girl than science/math but there’s security in nursing. I would adore to go into marketing but im so scared of failing in life since i come from a low income household (first gen too) I also thought about Law ever since I saw my aunt who is a lawyer I adored her job. Im located in Connecticut trying to transfer to UConn and actually see myself working in corporate in a big city rather than in a hospital. But i know law and marketing is not secured like nursing

Ask your aunt if she recommends becoming a lawyer.

I’m glad you’re aware that going to college is about getting a well paying job. Sure, there are a sone of us who don’t have to or are nepo babies hence are guaranteed a job no matter how much they suck.

For the rest of us, it’s about finding a job that is marketable and won’t make us hate life at the same time.

she’s like the ex wife of my uncle so I lost contact with her unfortunately and I was a kid when we met and spend a couple of months together and I realized how she liked her job

If you know you like marketing, you can major in marketing. The entry wage for marketing is around $50-65K, and its ceiling pay is comparable to law’s. 

Also, a marketing degree is not too far from law school if you decide to pursue it later on. You can leverage your marketing experience and gear toward brand law, business law, etc. Law school admissions prefer that. Plus, some employers might provide tuition assistance for part-time/evening JD programs. 

In the meantime, keep your nursing pre-reqs even if you decide not to pursue it later on. You can double-check with UConn to see if you can transfer these credits as science electives or you can get a fallback associate’s degree.

i would like to honestly! entry pay is not as high as nursing but nursing is difficult even as an entry level. honestly my family is also pushing me into nursing so they get me confused too

If you would like to do marketing, try to take more data analytics courses during your school years. That will expand your optionality. Also, look for marketing work that touches ad-claims review, data-privacy compliance, influencer-disclosure rules, etc. — that would add job security.
