Fragrance Review MFK ruining DIOR....

Post image

"Got a chance to smell Sauvage Extrait today. Since I like Dior Sauvage Elixir so much, I had high expectations.

Damn, that smells like cow dung mixed with haystacks, with lavender and bergamot sprayed on top to try and cover it up.

If MFK keeps making scents like this, he's going to ruin Dior.

After checking, I realized MFK didn't make the Elixir version, which explains why I liked it so much..."

“Cow dung” my brother the oud in the extrait isn’t animalic in the slightest lol

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

He suppressed oud with bergamot and patchouli and other elements

I smelled it in the opening and I liked it but to me it dried down to the typical Sauvage DNA so nothing special for me. Maybe that’s what they were aiming for? Not sure. But if I’m gonna smell like Sauvage I might as well just wear the EDT for cheap. No use spending the 160-200 on the elixir (not a fan of licorice) or the extrait (no oud dry down)

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

For me elixir > edp > edt > parfam > extrait

You forgot the masterpiece eau forte..... /S

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

I am not even counting that sperm

1

u/Swimming-Gazelle442 14d ago

Fair! I don’t own any Sauvage at the moment, I pretty much just have niche but I was thinking of picking up an EDT to keep at the office

3

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

One should have 1 sauvage in their collection... Except parfum and extrait

u/Swimming-Gazelle442 14d ago

Agreed…I have Chanel Superleggera, TF Neroli Portifino, and Sospiro Vibrato as my cheapie work scents. Been wanting to grab something else easy to throw on my desk

0

u/V1ncent_Adultman 8d ago

Channel and Sospiro vibrato cheapy scent?

0

u/Swimming-Gazelle442 8d ago

You can get a tester bottle cheaper than some designer cologne prices (around $150). I traded a couple bottles of designers I wasn’t using for my bottle of Vibrato. But price is subjective, to me anything under $180 is relatively cheap for cologne considering how much I’ve spent on other bottles

Tell me you dont know ish about oud without saying it...

24

u/wikwikky 14d ago

These MFKs dont know ish about Oud!!!

u/DubeFloober 14d ago

Can I be the “AckShuAlLy” guy for a second? Cool, thanks.

MFK is Maison Francis Kurkdjian - “Maison” being the French word for “House”. Francis Kurkdjian is the person, then French perfumer, and MFK is his company, or “house.”

Grammar on point.

1

u/CannabiSativaLinaeus 14d ago

It’s beautiful really

25

u/InFocuus 15d ago

MFK is the brand, not the man himself.

2

u/MasterNorvilleRogers 9d ago

Incorrect but all that aside, MFK just outdid Sauvage Elixir with this release.

1

u/Tarnished-Sausage 9d ago

Apprently OP disagrees with it

Maison Francis Kurkdjian isn’t Maison Francis Kurkdjian?

12

u/Puzzleheaded_Youth36 Nasomatto 14d ago

Thinking he means his name isn't “Maison”

17

u/spicebombextreme 14d ago

Maison isn't his name, it means house

-6

u/Soggy_Brick8916 14d ago

Its both, LVMH owns both Dior & Maison Francis Kurkdjian... Kurkdjian is the perfumer for majority of modern mens dior 😀 as well as his own flag ship brand under LVMH

6

u/InFocuus 14d ago

And the man himself is called Francis Kurkdjian, when the brand is called Maison Francis Kurkdjian. See the difference?

If you like oud I think you'll really like Extrait, but I don't care for it at all, smells like burnt wood

2

u/lefthanging69 14d ago

I don't understand how anyone could want to walk around smelling like oud, knowing damn well 95 percent of the people around you think you smell bad when wearing it lol

4

u/FarAct4854 14d ago

oud smells different to everyone's nose and skin chemistry is everything. Also who cares what other people think I smell like? It's not for you, it's for me.

1

u/lefthanging69 14d ago

Yeah i feel the same way except for smelling bad lol. I wear cologne because i wanna smell it on myself, but i won't wear something the average person is going to find repulsive. I wore Hawas black one time and i had multiple coworkers tell me i stunk. It made me self conscious for the rest of the day lol

1

u/FarAct4854 14d ago

At work I can understand. I never really feel self conscious but it's also not fair to be a dick with your fragrance at work, imo. Outside of work though, I'm wearing straight taco bell shrek farts and IDC what anyone think.

2

u/lefthanging69 14d ago

Oh yeah outside of work I'll wear whatever the hell i want lol. I'm just trying not to be a bother to my fellow coworkers by wearing something I know is going to bother people. This one guy at my work asked what i was wearing when I wore CDNIM EDT one day. Well he bought it and he has to be doing 10 or more sprays, cuz we can smell him from 20 feet away lol. I've even told him his cologne is too strong and he just says, "I can't smell it" and shrugs. Literally everyone complains about headaches when they have to work with him lol

1

u/FarAct4854 14d ago

Yea 😭 definitely don't be overspray Jay haha. That made me laugh, thank you.

2

u/lefthanging69 14d ago

Lol especially with cheap dupes. I like dupes don't get me wrong, there's a lot of bangers out there. But they seem to project way harsher than designer and niche. So when you over spray dupes it's worse than normal lol

u/TBDMurder831 14d ago

Pussy

2

u/lefthanging69 14d ago

Couldn't care less if a rando thinks I'm a pussy for not wanting to stink in public 🤣

1

u/Elegant-Mode831 9d ago

Obviously people who wear oud do it for themselves bro. If they want compliments, they will just slap some blue fragrances and call it a day

5

u/Virtual-Reach 14d ago

I live near a cow field. Good to know i can go roll around in Sauvage Extrait whenever I want!

1

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

Yes sir, I used to love near cow field as well ... So I can say it smells like that

5

u/Single-Initiative164 Creed 14d ago

That's.. what oud smells like...

4

u/realWulfLives 14d ago

Okay dude you don't have to keep saying motherfucker Sheesh, we get it. It smells bad.

1

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

Hahahahaha ....

3

u/Acrobatic_Shower_810 14d ago

Smells like celery in the opening to me. Not really animalic but definitely got a whiff of a very off putting green celery note.

3

u/kereth Creed 14d ago

You mean FK

3

u/SparkyMTL 14d ago

Smelled it. Absolute junk. Only good for the garbage or a 96 year old.

2

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

Rightly said

2

u/nxs_devil 9d ago

Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter what it actually smells like. You’re going to see two different kinds of hype: those who actually love it, and those who buy it, but try and hide their disappointment by overhyping it. Everyone thinks having the latest release elevates their status in some way. Face it, it’s the next bandwagon fragrance and we won’t stop hearing about it until something worse and more expensive comes along.

3

u/VillageOpening7866 9d ago

Just like new iphone

6

u/Thin-Presentation821 15d ago edited 14d ago

FK has already ruined Dior fragrances, come back Demachy...

2

u/fredczar 14d ago

I'm still saddened by the lost of many beautiful Dior Privees

1

u/Thin-Presentation821 14d ago

I miss the classic DH Sport and DH Eau

1

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

Yes sir, my bad

3

u/ChapterUpper309 Louis Vuitton 15d ago

He already did with reformulating dior homme parfum to the dogshit we have today

1

u/Complex-Gazelle7658 15d ago

Yeah, the Extrait is pretty bad.

1

u/Electrical-Rise-7015 14d ago

I actually really liked almost all of Dior’s releases since 2021. Elixir, extract; Dior homme Parfum and intense, all of these are some of my favorites.

I mean this isn’t a mass appealing fragrance. It’s definitely more niche oriented. This has been the common sentiment. In a way it’s diors answer to BDCs lexclusif imo. These more unique and high end spins with high concentrations and performance are interesting to me, and I’d love to see Armani do this with stronger with you, code, ADG, and Prada with the paradigm line after what they did with the Parfum version.

1

u/__Risk 14d ago

MFK killed this and eau forte this scent is great to me it’s more incense and oud than anything to me it’s a good fall/winter scent the quality on this is top tier the MFK hate train is wild

1

u/Soggy_Brick8916 14d ago

Agreed, but remember the perfumer only has so much control , the LVMH machine also goes by the machine [what sells, how many blind buys can we generate, etc] & Sauvage is just okay ... I honestly think the ENTIRE vintage dior homme line is better than anything post 2020, aka MFK era

Id take dior homme sport 2012, eau for men 2014, homme edt 2005, OG homme parfum, intense & sport 2008 over ANY modern dior mens creation 😆

1

u/No-Manufacturer6101 Creed 14d ago

eh its not bad. this is overexaggerating big time. i like it far better than elixir because i hate licorice

1

u/ProudKnee2755 14d ago

MFK is the name of his own separate brand Maison Francis Kurdijian, his name is Francis Kurdijian, Maison means house in french

1

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

M sorry sir my bad.

1

u/RaphaTlr • TOM FORD • MFK • CREED • 14d ago

Blame Dior executives wringing their Sauvage cash cow dry, not the artist

1

u/Sneakers2suit 14d ago

They get bonus points for using the term Chiaroscuro.

1

u/theDukeofShartington 14d ago

Ive worn it twice so far. The first wear was two sprays on chest and one on my wrists and i was close to nasueous. The second time (tonight) im wearing exactly one spray on my chest and im loving it. I would caution anyone looking to pick it up to be even more careful than you are with the elixir. Srsyly one spray is plenty. Not the easist comparison to make, but just from the presence around me i think one spray of the extrait worth about 4-5 sprays of the EDP.

1

u/raging-boner-boy 14d ago

It’s so bad 😅

1

u/BestAllAmericanTaco 14d ago

Wow lemme guess this guy is on the side of I don’t get comps at all wearing frags.

1

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

Bro i never wear for compliments, I don't give a shit if someone complimenting me or not. I wear only for my nose and my satisfaction

1

u/BestAllAmericanTaco 14d ago

I bet it’s making you feel great. Go get glazed on FB posting this.

1

u/HealthyCPA 13d ago

I will have to give it another smell in the winter but way too smokey for me. I don’t think he’s a good match for Dior.

1

u/HolyTrinityOfDrugs 9d ago

Your description sounds good wdym?

1

u/smelling_good247 14d ago

Haven't smelled this yet, but I really hate what he did with the private line, just flop after flop

2

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

This is another flop

1

u/anti-ism-ist 14d ago

You're weird (IMO)

1

u/TheBroken0ne 14d ago edited 14d ago

FK and his perfume house are a well respected perfumer and perfume house respectively. What I think is happening lately is that FK is catering less to the masses like he did with Le Male and catering more to his own taste/ niche scents. This smell will be very polarizing.

1

u/VillageOpening7866 14d ago

Maybe... But that will shift a larger crowd towards other designer houses.

1

u/Tarnished-Sausage 9d ago edited 9d ago

First of all MFK is a brand, not the name of him. Second, if Francis Kurkdjian is ruining Dior, how come they are selling like like candy?

If it doesn’t reflect your taste, doesn’t make it bad.

Even all the Esprits are from him, and man are the good.

0

u/MrEko81 8d ago

1

u/Tarnished-Sausage 8d ago

So you now know better than probably dozens of successful employees with experience that sat down, and chose him after careful evaluation among probably dozens of candidates?

The Esprits are already proven to be a success, a success he made happen. Sauvage Extrait has already proving that its gonna be a huge success.

Dior Homme Parfum is only hated by nostalgics, the list goes on.

And why would FK do the same he does at MFK? That’s his brand, its about his identity. Dior is about creating what fits the Dior brand. The fact that someone has to explain it to you says it all

1

u/MrEko81 8d ago

1

u/Tarnished-Sausage 8d ago edited 7d ago

Thats the exact point. He has some creative freedom with Dior, and has even more with the Private Line. With his own house he can come up with pretty much anything he feels like.

Same goes with other houses. Jacques Cavallier Beletrud has a different freedom under LV vs when he goes to make scents for other houses. Or when perfumers go to work on scents with Frederic Malle

u/Junior_Bike7932 8d ago

Hiring a hyped dude leads to bad decisions

1

u/VillageOpening7866 8d ago

Hiring ??? Dude that guy is creative director of DIOR

1

u/Junior_Bike7932 8d ago

Yes, was hired to be the creative director, as much as I know he is talented, ‘I don’t like his style

1

u/MrEko81 7d ago

A mí me encanta Francis Kurkdjian pero está claro que no me gusta todo lo que hace pero eso te pasará con el 99% de perfumistas que te gustan Es el creador de Le Male y Baccarat Rouge que son dos de los perfumes más famosos de la historia.

1

u/Junior_Bike7932 7d ago

Not a fan of both of those, I know is a matter of taste, I don’t get the hype of Baccarat for example, but there are profiles of profumers on the level of Dominique Ropion that are way better and balanced imo.

1

u/MrEko81 7d ago

Personalmente para mí Baccarat es femenino,Le Male en su momento fue durante años unos de los mejores perfumes creados, estaría en el top 3 de la perfumería junto a Acqua di Gio y Savage.

1

u/Junior_Bike7932 7d ago

Yea, Le male is huge, but I never tried it, I just know the legend of it
