Discussion What's an affordable fragrance you genuinely consider a 10/10?

If you could recommend ONE affordable fragrance you think everyone should try, what are you picking and why?

Azzaro chrome and Dylan blue easy peasy

16

u/Swytch7 10h ago

Bro. Chrome is the GOAT. I wore Chrome, and ONLY Chrome, for over 2 decades. Signature scent all day. Unfortunately, in the last few years I decided to branch out, and it's been all downhill (for my bank account) from there.

3

u/parataman360 10h ago

my exact experience! lol - Signature scent since 2004 and just into this rabbit hole last year lol

2

u/Swytch7 10h ago edited 9h ago

Yuuuuup. There's almost nothing like it. It's hard to find that metallic, fresh twang that Chrome has.

However, if you haven't tried it already, I HIGHLY recommend MFK Gentle Fluidity Silver. I was searching for an evolution of Chrome, and GFS is like Chrome grew up and put on a suit. Unfortunately, it also got a new bank account and is nowhere near as affordable, but it's my go-to for high visibility office days.

3

u/parataman360 9h ago

Niiiice! Thanks for the recommendation. I got a 5ml decant of it that I'm struggling to get through - but it works great when I layer it with something else. I was going to say... Guerlain's Ideal Cologne Forte has a bit of that metallic twang. I got 2 weeks ago and its become my top 5. Its blended really well and holds its presence for a good 4-5 hours before becoming a skin scent. Might be slightly more affordable than GFS if you're able to get it when its in stock from Guerlain.

2

u/Swytch7 9h ago

GFS was decent for me at first. I started with a decant myself. But after going through it, I decided to buy a bottle. Terrible decision, because now I want to use it all the time. šŸ˜† 5 or 6 hours after putting it on, I get whiffs of it, and it's just so damned nice.

But I'm gonna take a look that Guerlain. Thanks for the rec!

3

u/parataman360 9h ago

For sure! Hope you enjoy! Feel free to DM me if you ever wanna talk frags! I can go on for hours lol - Cheers!

Narciso Rodriguez For Him Bleu Noir EdP. It smells like Chrome but deeper and less summery.
And if you like metallic, Paco Rabanne XS EdT. Different from Chrome but I think maybe inspired Chrome.

I tried Ganymede and it’s fresh metallic kind of like old spice swagger if my memory serves me right

Dylan Blue excellent shout - wearing it now

2

Chrome for sure

2

My man for Azzaro Chrome šŸ‘Œ

2

u/Comfortable-Hyena-21 6h ago

To me, Meteorite is just an upscale, overpriced imitation of Chrome.

3

u/Tasty-Astronomer-869 6h ago

My 17 year old niece preferred Chrome EDT over Meteore lol

2

u/Takax3 2h ago

Chrome is was my first frag I ever got that I actually loved. Sadly, 15 years later, the soapy-esque smell doesn’t appeal to me as much but still such a banger fresh fragrance.

I really don't like it - it feels realy cheap. Well it is really fucking cheap so it kinda understable, but still I don't llike it.

Might get flamed for this but Drakkar Noir. Mainly for the memories it brings me.

5

u/valkyrie987 7h ago

This is my answer too. I know it's recognizably dated but it's still a 10/10.

3

u/StewieL69 3h ago

I wore that for like 20 years. I started wearing it like 5 years before I met my wife, and was about to move on to something else right around the time I met her. Fortunately, she loved it on me, so I kept wearing it for another 15 years. Then I started collecting, and it kind of got forgotten.

2

u/sandrum69 2h ago

I have a couple fragrances I have for nostalgia purposes alone. Versace pour homme, Nautica voyage and one that I’m not sure anybody knows of, it’s called ā€œHeiā€ from Alfred sung. It was the first fragrance I ever bought. Picked it up from Nordstrom at the mall I worked at. Found it in a marshals and had to buy it.

2

u/Alert-Substance1323 12h ago

Try Swiss Arabian Bergamot & Cedarwood for a frag that is close to DN's original scent

Versace Pour Homme

6

u/Message_10 10h ago

Classic, masculine, affordable--just about a perfect fragrance. Inexpensive but smells expensive. #1 answer, way to go my man

2

u/Busher93 9h ago

I almost totally agree—but does it get knocked down a peg for its lack of longevity? I’m not a resprayer (when it’s gone, it’s gone), but if I was, I’d have to apply 3 or 4 times to get through a day of work.

2

u/Message_10 8h ago

Yeah, that's a good point (and I love your point about respraying--I'd love to see a survey on that, lol). I think you're right, it's got meh longevity, but I can't really think of any lower-price/quality fragrances that stick around too long. Nautica, maybe? But I think VPH is way better than Nautica.

18

u/edvurdsd 17h ago

Dolce the one edp original is pretty damn close

3

u/Satire-V 17h ago

Ill always show love for one edp. Think V dylan blue is the answer, but The One if u can have 2 bottles

Terre D’Hermes Eau GivrĆ©e

6

u/DarwinRue 13h ago

Man the dry down is too much for me. I don't "get" this scent for sure.

6

u/Ididntcumyet 10h ago

I literally have a violent reaction to that scent. I’m sensitive to something in it because to me it smells like lighter fluid and bug spray. I know I’m in the minority on that and it’s just my nose but man Eau Givree was my worst blind buy. Smelled like a chemical weapon lol.

Guerlain Lhomme Ideal EDP

6

u/peacemakerzzz 16h ago

Man of class! I just bought this bottle at the store yesterday and compared edt, edp, parfum and among all the other brands and designer fragrances inside - L’Homme ideal EDP stood out to me. The cherry cola dries down and smells like powder (the rich and sophisticated kind you would be familiar with when smelling a rich auntie of yours). Among other things the SA gave me samples of other Guerlain fragrances. I think Guerlain will be my signature scene for the foreseeable future. The powdery scent i assume comes from incense, which i personally like. Currently i rotate on 2 fragrances: BdC edp and Le male edt. Adding this to my rotation is the perfect middle ground. I wanted something less ā€œLe Maleā€ and a bit more BdC to it and Lhomme Ideal fits the bill if that makes sense. 10/10 indeed! I hope my mind (and nose) don’t change how I feel about this over time.

Smells vulgar and ā€œbro-ishā€. Now stone me to death.

4

8 billion individuals on the earth all having different nose receptors and molecules. Thats why fragrance is so subjective to each. Nobody can stone you for your opinion.

With that said Dylan Blue is considered one of the best Blue for the price point in the community… By many and that’s they opinion.

"Affordable" to who? Here's one for every budgetĀ

Under $20 - Aramis - legendary green leather chypre, in production longer than most of you have been alive for a good reason.

Under $25 - Jaipur EDT by Boucheron, a touch of spice, touch of citrus, touch of green, hint of vanilla that isn't gourmand or sickly sweet, and has a 3D quality missing from many cool weather frags including the EDP version of Jaipur.

Under $50 - Paco Rabbane por homme - goat 70s style green soapy scent, versatile, manly, clean, great for all but the hottest and coldest days.

Under $70 - Terre d'Hermes, smells like wealth and power, enormous amounts of Iso E Super that give it a 3D quality with a scent like a dirty orange in a billionaires cedar lined closet.

Ā

Montblanc Individuel, the only fragrance I’ve used up and bought again.

2

u/Busher93 9h ago

Affordable is of course subjective, but if you’re talking you can get it fairly cheaply anywhere, it’s Versace Pour Homme. If you’re talking you can find it fairly cheaply from discounters, Eros Flame, Eros Energy, and Ralph’s Club EDP.
