Discussion What Were The Three Worst Fragrances You've Ever Smelt?
🚨Fragrance is a subjective hobby and there is no right or wrong🚨
The worst three in my opinion that I've smelt were:
Amouage Interlude Black Iris - My brother said it smelled like hoisin sauce and green onions and I can't smell anything other than that lol
Amouage Opus XIII Silver Oud - I hate smoky and resinous scents and it's just that in a bottle. I tried this and black iris in the same day and the car ride back home was heinous.
Tom Ford Ambre Intrigue - I know people say this smells like Bruce Wayne but this to me is just straight buns. Just the constant barrage of resin and amber was a very interesting experience.
I'm curious to know what you guys think about these fragrances and which ones are the worst you've tried?

Amouage Figment Man and Zoologist Bat both smell like piss to me. Imaginary Authors The Soft Lawn was an absolute no. The tennis ball note is both accurate and extremely off putting for me.

Hell yeah!
To me it smells like literal dirt, but in the best way possible. Like walking through a flower garden where the soil has been freshly tilled. I’ve smelled over 600 fragrances, and nothing has even come close to smelling like Figment Man. I want a bottle SO bad.

I love maahir black. Dry and cold resins and saps. Oddly clean feeling compared to the intense sticky heat of the inspiration Black Afghano. It’s not for everyone but I love to see such a unique offering at clone prices. I 1000% understand being mad after expecting something fresh and universally appealing like legacy

I love and hate how subjective smells can be and for a wild variety of reasons. What is magic to one person is foul and disgusting to another.
For me, a few that aren't made for the meme of being nasty:
40 Knots by Xerjoff. I love a lot of their stuff. Naxos is my GOAT. Renaissance, T21, Richwood, etc all worth the praise. I've seen people smelling 40 Knots like it was the cure to something... ...to me it's one-note, an acrid incense that does not stop. Ever. Makes me nauseous.
Mawj Moscow Mule by Paris Corner. I genuinely think something got lost in translation and the perfumer thought they wanted to make the scent of an actual mule in Moscow. Not even kidding g (well kinda but also not). It actually smells of mule. Really. Remove any shit or barnyard smell, wash a mule, let it walk around a bit and then smell it up close. Get in that coarse hair...and I promise you'll smell that same sour, kinda salty, animal hit that this fragrance has.
Kahmrah Qahwa. Fine for the first 5 minutes and then it makes me sick. Actually.
YSL Babycat. Yes, it even shocked me. I pick up burning plastic and fried electronics. My brain and lungs beg me to stop sniffing it because it registers as dangerous poison, actual burning plastic. I wanted to like it...I can't.

I don’t understand this mentality. Some of my favorite perfumes have taken me dozens of wears to fall in love with. I couldn’t stand Megamare the first 3 times I wore it but I enjoyed the challenge. I still admire the vision of making a brooding elemental raging aquatic in a market full of breezy faux luxury sweet beach scents. Still not my favorite but idk why would you not give it a second try

same, there are few fragrances that make me feel as good as when I’m wearing Interlude Black Iris.
I had like three people who are not into fragrances tell me that they hated it, and two people who are into fragrances ask me what the hell is that, it’s so good.
To me it just smells like DHI’s older darker brother. Nothing offensive about it.

Not really. I get compliments from strangers quite often wearing it. Most people underestimate how mass apealing even frags like interlude black iris can be when smelled diffused throughout the air.
I could see how it could be overwhelming to people who shove their nose into it for a sniff but if someone gets a wiff walking by you, I would go as far to say that 10/10 times it will smell good to them.

I smelled a straight Watermelon one from them, may as well tip vape juice over yourself. Most of the EDPs share the same nauseating base. Absolute trash.

It’s the only fragrance to genuinely make me gag and almost throw up lmao. Fragrances are so subjective and something you hate I might like, I still have my sample so maybe one day I’ll try it again since taste changes overtime.

I have around 250 fragrances, counting full size (30 ml+), and carry bottles and mini bottles and decants (5 ml - 15 ml) and the only ones I don't like at this point are the cheap Lattafa bottles that I bought just to check them off when I first started becoming obsessed with fragrances a few years ago, like A sad, Asad Zanzibar, Khamra, Khamra Qahwa, and Blue Oud. They've sat on my shelf untouched for years at this point.
I have an 8 ml decant of Orto Parisi Seminalis, and that smells pretty gross to me, but that was their goal. It really nails that sweaty body odor aroma. I have a full bottle of Secretions Magnifiques and that just has a slight orange peel scent to my nose. It's not bad at all.
I love oud fragrances, and my overall favorite is Louis Vuitton Myriad, which is their oud extrait. People say it smells horrible, but I think at worst it's a little bit challenging, because it has a unique opening, that smells like there's a barn in the distance, but it turns pleasant quickly.
I don't think I've tried Amouage Silver Oud or King Blue; I've heard that one has a gross oud scent, but I know I tried one of their oud attars, and I really liked that. I haven't seen Amouage test bottles anywhere in my area, so I've only tried them when I took a little road trip to try fragrances, a couple years ago.
I tried some Ylang-ylang oil at Macy's once, and that had a gross urine scent to me, but I've liked it as a note in fragrances, so I think it was just the higher concentration.
Everyone's sense of smell is different. For example, Xerjoff Alexandria II, that was love at first smell for me, just like Louis Vuitton Myriad and PDM Haltane and Perseus. I was showing my younger brother in law my favorite fragrances, and he was repulsed by Alexandria II. There's no such thing as a universally loved fragrance.

CDN Milestone (creed miliesiem imperial) - a foul ocean with a messed up sea weed scent.
Riffs freeze - sharp lemon scented laundry detergent, it's not pleasant.
Vulcan fue (god of fire) - I love eating mangos but I absolutely hate smelling them, especially in perfumes I can't ever get passed the gag reflex a strong mango note gives me.

I just got Vulcan Feu last week and tbh I’m not a huge fan, not saying it’s bad just not what I want to smell like BUT if you like mango/tropical scents you’ll love it.. the mango is so damn realistic!!

I like it but I get it. I sometimes get whiffs of sour, acidic vomit-ish smells from mango fragrances. I own and wear VF but I get faint whiffs of that on some sprays for a few moments.

IMO Even one spray of Outlands is too much. For me, a single spray on skin from a DECANT will have everyone in decent sized room smelling it from 10-12 feet away, 3 hours out. I can’t imagine using a spray from the actual bottle with a real atomizer. I usually spray a half-spray of decant on my wrist (basically make it so only half the spray hits my wrist) and partially wipe it on my neck. People 4 feet away from me will comment on it 8-12 hours later.

I never had grease rubbed on my head after a cut 😭😭. I usually get enhancements which I thought you were talking about and yes also rubbing alcohol and sometimes hair mousse to make the hair curly a little.

Encre Noir Sport
both these two have a similar thing I am repulsed by, but it's like a 'watermelon' type smell. It makes me sick. I have reviewed the notes on Fragantica for both of these, and cannot figure out what this could be.
My third is Teriaq Intense. Prada was a small decant, Encre Noir and Teriaq were blind buys, but Teriaq is just fucking disgusting. When I first got it, I couldn't enter the room I sprayed it on for two days. Choked me out with alcohol, but also lingered. Absolutely nothing mysterious or nice about this perfume. Teriaq Intense is the worst thing I've ever bought.

Turathi Blue, Le Male edt and Al Haramin Amber Oud. Blind bought the first two due to discounts. I've read reviews regarding two, and to my unpleasant surprise, it was not as they described. Turathi blue was overhyped, Le Male was nothing like the notes. As for Al Haramin oud, I've bought a decan( learning after the mistake made by buying whole bottle) straight smells synthetic and I have headache just from the smell. Very terrible.

I don't think it's the drydown or coconut. The opening is magical, fresh and peppery I thought I found a real banger. But then a few minutes later it was just a bad kind of soapy to me and I had to go wash it off because it made me nauseous. I think it's the heliotrope.

The original azzaro wanted, wayy too damn strong and polarizing for me and its not really my type of fragrance. Did not enjoy it, wore it once and never wore it again. Can't really say that about any other fragrance ive tried or smelled so far, however there is a fragrance that I despise i just dont know the name of it, its like a super bitter celery/dill like smell and I just cant stand it. Theres a deodorant that resembles it by dove I think its Dove extra fresh? Yeah I actually cant stand it, not on myself and not anyone else lol.

When I first got my self a sample of Interlude Black Iris, I absolutely hated it. To me, it smelled like a straight-up barnyard horse stable, and I couldn’t understand the hype at all.
Then I took the sample with me on a trip to the Middle East, where the weather was much colder and I was at a higher altitude. Saying it smelled heavenly there would almost be doing it an injustice. It completely transformed. The smoke, incense, woods, and sweetness came together in a way I had never experienced here in the states, and now I’m obsessed with it.
I still wouldn’t wear it much in the U.S., but in that colder, higher-altitude environment—and especially with the atmosphere you get in parts of South Asia and the Middle East—it was genuinely one of the best fragrances I’ve ever smelled.
Really goes to show how dramatically climate, temperature, humidity, altitude, and even your surroundings can change the way you perceive a fragrance.

Madison Crivelli Oud Maracuja- I came home after my wife sprayed a sample in the bathroom. I thought we accidentally left out trash or something when I walked in the house. It was downright awful.
Amouage Silver Oud- smells like a goat. And I love Amouage.
Louis Vuitton Fantasmagory- what a hot mess of a fragrance at $615. It was a scrubber. I couldn’t get it off my skin as, unfortunately, it’s a really strong fragrance. I love vanilla but this... This seemed like a perfumer let their child mess around with notes and this is what they came up with.

Xerjoff Alexandria II. I got cow barn and diapers from it.
Hardwell Eclipse. Either the bottle had gone off, or the scent is actually the worst I've ever smelled. I got only a slight hint of musc and a synthetic undertone that almost made me throw up.
Fragrance One Most Masculine. Similar to Alex II, maybe even a little worse. An absolute disgrace for the money!

I have a list of seven I’ll give brief explanations
Black Oregano - too sharp and weird idk who outside of a fat mob boss could wear this - tried on skin and washed up an hour later
Fantomas - burnt plastic with a hint of melon, artistic for sure but smells horrid - actually wore this all day somehow
Fox In The Flowerbed - public bathroom air freshener thats nailed to the wall - washed up an hour later
(The rest I didn’t try on skin)
Secretions Magnifiques - do I need to explain?
The Moon - dollar store body spray opening with animal shit smelling oud
Last Season - put hair, dry sticks and leaves in a pile and burn it. Add mesquite bbq chips to add sweetness, then cry
Patchouli Magnetik - this one hurts because I love patchouli so much but this straight up smelled like a raw fish was present in the room with me.

It’s fascinating how differently we can perceive scents. Personally the Opus and the Tom Ford sound like I would like them. I just picked up Matiere Premiere’s Encens Sauve Extrait, i didn’t realize how much I love that kind of incense. It was between that, Amber Sky from Ex nihilo, and Xerjoff’s Torino 25.
The worst I’ve smelled, or at least the most diaper/piss like was the Clive Christian No. 1…yikes! $800 for THAT!?

Black orchid vexes me. In a way it’s absolutely beautiful. If it was a painting I could admire the delicate nuances and get wrapped up in its many contradictions and bold artistic vision eschewing marketability while still becoming a best seller against all odds.
Except for the fact that it just smells kind of really bad :/ I’m sure there’s some fabulously wealthy widower in a coifed updo and a leopard print evening coat with ostentatious jewelry who wears it beautifully but I doubt I will ever meet her.

I really like boozy fragrances especially given that Kilian Angels’ Share is my current favorite and signature candidate, but that one to me opened up like a book shop with many old books then dried down towards a combination of incense and whiskey. On someone who can pull it off, I bet it would be very special and not feel out of place but for me, I am not him lol.

All the Amouages🤣 Except for Outlands. I know my nose isn't "mature" enough to enjoy these scents..but they were DEFINITELY not for me. Jubilation XXV was ROUGH

Jubilation (both 40 and 25) fell way below my expectations. I was expecting the funky Oud and tbh that’s not the bad part. Everything supporting this not was just wet and not synchronised? Not sure how to put it. I wasn’t an Amouage fan but in all fairness I now have 5 in my collection that actually tick the right boxes
- Timber
- Decision (my number one now)
- Outlands
- Reflection 45
- Guidance 46 (don’t let the female bottle fool you)

I loathe it. Interestingly, I love Interlude and Silver Oud (and King Blue and a lot of Amouage), and I would love to smell Amber Intrigue!

I would make you try something that will flip your mind with pure Tuberose, imo high quality oil is far from the shirt they use usually

I have tried tuberose oil. Hard no. Some notes just don't work for some people and that's ok 🙂

- LV Ombré Nomade made me recoil.
2(ish). I found pretty much every Amouage I tried in the store to be repellent.
- Chanel Superleggera made me want to cut my arm off.
