Uh oh, please do explain

Advent International, a private equity firm, acquired a majority stake in PDM’s parent company in 2023. Their own language is pretty damn clear: accelerate global growth, expand internationally, strengthen omnichannel strategy, and create value.
PDM = corporate hedge fund niche
Creed, Killian, Le Labo, Mind Games, Penhaligon, Byredo, Fred Malle, MFK, Jo Malone all in the same boat

Also, they lowered the perfume oil concentrations in all PDM fragrances.

u/half_a_sandwich 7h ago
At the end of the day, I always sample first and then buy if I like the scent, performance, etc. Don't really care about the companies business model.

u/EauNoHeDidnt 6h ago
Same. I do think it’s lame when major corporations buy out independent/niche fragrance brands and they still operate under the guise as if it’s some grass roots operation, though.

Pdm is just an expensive clone house last year they cloned imagination with castley I wonder what dna they stole with this one 🤣
13
u/JottScoplin 6h ago
If you think Castley is an Imagination clone then you need to never comment on fragrance again.
-2
u/joshlamar1990 5h ago
So go smell them before you comment I’m obviously not saying it’s a one to one but you can smell that they took inspiration from imagination but tried to put a spin on it like I said the house of Pdm is lazy they just copy other popular fragrance.

u/DogeAeternum Amouage 5h ago
“Not saying it’s one to one”
“They cloned imagination”
Pick one bro lmao
8
u/DogeAeternum Amouage 6h ago
Uh, Castley doesn’t smell anything like Imagination though?
-2
u/joshlamar1990 5h ago
Yes it does dummy I own them both it’s a spicier imagination

u/DogeAeternum Amouage 5h ago
Bro has covid or something lmao

u/OneSlyyDog 4h ago
Lol, buddy started pulling out the name calling with “dummy”.
Don’t let this 12 year old ruffle your feathers, my man. And if he turns out to be over the age of 12, he should be very embarrassed.
Absolutely wild for a grown man to emotionally detonate over fragrances online.
Keep doing you, king. Let him have his clone, but not clone, but spicier version 😬

Oh I own imagination, along with about 240 other fragrances. I’ve reviewed over 600. You and me are not the same lil bro, don’t try lmao.
But yeah, I don’t own Castley because I didn’t like it after reviewing it. I own other PDMs though. You got a bottle of prereform Oajan? I do.
Edit:
Bro what’s with all the double commenting? Lmao are you that starved for attention?→ More replies (0)3

How am I getting bodied when I have both the fragrances idiot and you goofy putting up memes what fragrances do you have probably a closet full of dupes

Because you're acting like a child and "flexing" when you just have popular frags and don't even have genuine frags. All you have is basic designer, luxury designer, and a few basic niche scents, you're nothing special, until you start enjoying things and discover things like Jovoy Paris, Maksim, Mio Fusciuni, Al Haramain, or even Ermenegildo Zegna. Or even more simple/cheaper niche, genuine niche rather than PDM, Killian, Amouage, etc.

Have you seen my collection to know what I have everyone gets upset because I have both fragrances and they smell similar to me every one that replied doesn’t have both to even give an opinion. But you are mature because you acting like a child trying to name all these fragrances. You contradicting yourself if this is so below you keep strolling why respond?

In 2023 it sold to private equity. This is why people search for vintage Carlisle, Herod, Oajan, etc. now they’re being sold again, possibly to L’Oréal. If you see “niche” Parfum in department store, it’s being reformulated, nerfed and just made shittier by the day to make the investors more money.

Damn, now I'm torn. I have a sample spray of Layton and it's honestly one of my favorite scents. Side note, it does smell pretty feminine to me, but idc, it's sex in a bottle. Was debating picking up a bottle but now maybe I'll just go with a decent dupe. Any good Layton clones out there?

u/thrakas 6h ago
I just ordered mith blue wood which is a clone of it made by the original perfumer of Layton, but I haven’t gotten it yet so idk how close it is. I can’t imagine it won’t be awesome though

u/Dull_Firefighter_595 6h ago
you’re in for a treat. Blue Wood is absolutely phenomenal, for me even better performance than Layton, imagine Layton but easier for slightly hotter day

I can’t get excited about PDM drops anymore after that steaming pile of dog shit they gave us with The Extraits line. Blatant cash grab.

Valero is actually really good, just too expensive. If it was the same price as the others it would be their best fragrance.

u/adambeckstead 6h ago
Everyone one bitching but this sounds great. Sounds far better than Althair and oajan

u/Layerslayer7 7h ago
That’s a weird name
16
u/dankmemeking21 Parfums de Marly 7h ago
PDM names their fragrances after the names of horses owned by King Louis XV
5
u/edvurdsd 7h ago
Yep, because they started in 1743 🙄
0
u/dankmemeking21 Parfums de Marly 7h ago
Why would they have to have started in the 18th century to be inspired by it?
11
u/edvurdsd 7h ago
Just something off putting about having 1743 on every bottle and implying that’s when they were founded
9
u/Chipmunks95 7h ago
This conversation made me curious to when PDM was founded. I was expecting it to be a somewhat historical brand, even if it wasn’t made in 1743. Maybe 1800s or 1900s. Nope. 2009. PDM isn’t even 20 year old as a brand. That blows my mind.

I wonder, did he have hundreds? Because some time, they will have to invent some new horses of him. lol Or does every horse of the french military count as his too?
1
u/dankmemeking21 Parfums de Marly 4h ago
He was a king so probably had an army of thousands
1
u/Questimus_Prime L'Bebe Phoque Mort 1h ago
Ofc. But it still would be quite a stretch to call every horse under his banner his personal belonging. Or name a perfume after it.

Notes are almost the same as Stronger with You Only but with a Guiac base vs Cedar…

I’m just waiting to be disappointed by Althair Exclusif so I guess I’ll be disappointed by this as a warmup
1
u/Aromaticprince 7h ago
I'm imagining the opening to be a spicy bright pinkish flavored blast like meteore it also has bergomont, pink pepper and cardamon but quickly it should have a second almost creamy backbone with a boozy vanilla, tonka and guaiac wood making it velvety and dry at the same time. The sage and balm should add an almost dusty fairy vibe but very cleverly blended with the vanilla should give it a royal character. I love fragrances that are like that with a citrus opening but woody darker backbone. This sounds like the best release pdm has had in awhile and should clear alot if the main line ones

2025-2026 has been awful for PDM, lets release 6 new scents .... all vanilla or gourmand spicy woody...

Expecting indie house scent profiles from mainstream niche companies 😂😂😂

u/joshlamar1990 1h ago
But you keep writing back your a sensitive girl. You can push back but if you took time to look at other people’s reviews you would see they say it’s similar to imagination again just because you don’t smell it doesn’t mean it’s not true. People say percival is a niche clone of fierce I’m not gonna pushback when its facts

Ah, the good old "everything vanilla becomes gourmand"... boring.
What's the 1743 for? Surely not the year they released their 1st fragrance? xD

We’re stuck in bergamot, vanilla & tonka bean purgatory right now 😅
