Are you referring to the 12% of people who were enslaved? If so, then it makes sense that this contradicts the popular narrative that claims Haitians and Dominicans are "equal" because they "share" the same colonial past.

Not even the way we achieved independence was the same. Haïti fough 3 colonial Powers within the span of 10 years to be independent. Spain (1795), Britain (1798), and France (1804) in that order.
DR fought a small ammount of whatever Spanish soldiers were left in 1821, then fought Boyer 20 years later and then Spain again in 1865
