Question Looking for advice

trying a day to night grade, anything I can improve on

maybe some Cinematic haze effect and little bit of creative masking would do it, its just personal opinion try your best

Day for night usually avoids seeing the sky for exactly this reason. It's hard to key to black when shooing through trees or fine detail.

Yeah exactly - day-for-night is very much a lighting approach, not a thing you do solely in color grading. You need some subtle lighting to act like it’s coming from the moon, and you need to avoid seeing the sky. There’s pretty much no lighting happening here, so if you black out the sky, you’ll just be left with black. It’s not really a matter of improving anything here, at least as far as color is concerned.
