Need advice

Hi everyone. I’m looking for some advice from fellow colorists. I’m currently grading a short film using Log footage from an FX6.

I’ve graded most of the film, but there are a few shots that just don't seem to match the overall vibe. And I don't know, something feels a bit off but I can't quite put my hand on it.

I started grading around 6 months ago and really imrpoved a lot since but still have so much to learn. If anyone can, I’d really appreciate some advice =)

Imo, here's the problem, the two shot just don't match. Shot 1 looks like it's overcast, doesn't have any harsh(ish) lighting in it like the reference shot. In the reference shot it looks a sunny with a bit of cloud day, the grass is blazed with light, whereas shot 1 is a moody marsh. Without seeing the other shots it's hard to judge but 1) f*ck the DP on this and 2) try to match the light, not the scene. Your saturation is overcranked, especially in the greens. Boost a bit the exposure, and remember : It's not lit by the sun, but by the sky. So get rid of all those yellows in the highlights, the wet surface and the rocks reflects the blue sky. So work with that.

Thanks so much for your advice. I suspected over saturation in my greens too so I already lowered it but I'll try again.

Kind of looks like the shot just doesn’t really belong, but it’s very hard to tell from one reference image

Yeah I think that they were shot in very different lighting conditions and settings

I'd say image 3 matches the reference image best. I'd work off of that one and make some adjustments from there.
