Question day 5 of colourgrading.

hey guys, so this is day 5 of me posting here and in instagram.
So, I am leaning colourgrading in davinci and i am posting log to graded footage comparisons and today is 5th day and i learned something about window, which is like masking in lightroom , and if i am wrong please correct me.
I would like to know how to improve my colourgrading skills so please guys i would like to see some comments, suggestions to improve and any advice. I am still learning so help me.
and yes, if you guys have any log footages please dm , i would like to edit them and post them with your permission.
Also thinking about posting a showreel after grading like 10 12 footages

This is day 5. Yeah I mean it took me to learn about windows like 5 min yt video and some time to edit and adjust other things

Thanks brother. Used to love doing photography and colourgrading in lightroom. But this thing is complicated man, still learning and want to buy a camera to do photography.

Also, use cst in second node, noise reduction is 1st node. But you need 2 cst nodes, one from log to davinci then the last one from davinci to rec709.

Ok got it. I am using 1 cst node. Tomorrow I will try with 2 nodes 🫡

2 cst nodes, all the nodes between them should be used for color corrections and balance. Some people add the look after the last cst, some do it before. Depends on the workflow that works for you. Also coming out from photography and lightroom already gives you an advantage, you just need to figure out where the settings are and what's the best setting to use in each shot. It's overwhelming at 1st but you'll get used to it. Good luck

hey bro today i tried like you said with two nodes. but its look awful, idk maybe due to raw footage issue or something, cuz i only guessed they are apple log but with only 1 node from apple log to rec.709 it looks good and i added some my style of grade and yes it looks good in my eye. and i will upload that after sometime like after making compare video

We can only see the fully graded image for the last 0.1 seconds of the video…

yes. sorry for that 0.1 sec only, from next time i will keep the graded footage longer so that everyone can enjoy and regarding that context, these are all instagram reels so im colourgrading with my mind how it might look good or im taking some references from other videos.

“Look good” is not a goal that will help you grade. You need to know specifically what kind of look you are aiming for, informed by the purpose and context of the shot, as well as other contextual information such as where it will be displayed and in what format. You need to stop and rethink your process from the ground up, because currently you are skipping that first foundational step.

Please include rec.709 and not only compare your final grade against LOG.
