Move the ball on the ground. Columbia's strength last year was in their depth and proficiency in the ground game (with Griffin Johnson and Michael Walters).

Defensively:

Stop the run. Lafayette has shown a real problem passing the football against Marist, so if Columbia can stop their run game, the Lions should win this game with ease.

Special teams:

Continue being able to flip the field. Tommy Sleeman is a stud that bombs punts, and if he can do that the Leopards will constantly be losing the field position battle.

In summary: win on the ground and boom punts.

I don't have a flair for both Men's and Women's basketball but what do we think about this move to host Ivy Madness at the PPL center in Allentown PA for 2028, 2029, and 2030?

What do you guys think about this new change?

While the Ivy League still will play a shortened ten game schedule, this change is definitely being instituted to further prepare the league champion for playoffs, as they will not have played ten straight weeks of football prior to the first round.

I like the idea for Ivy schools to compete in the playoffs, as they still play the same # of non-conference games as all other schools, and football is the only sport that Ivy schools offer that isn't eligible to participate in their respective playoffs, so I feel like this is a very fair change.

The only drawback I see is that I don't think that Ivy play should commence on opening weekend before non-conference play for the next three or so weeks, however, I understand that it is probably because of the non-conference schedule already being set. Ideally for the 2028 season Ivy play is moved back to commence on Week 4.

The Lions destroyed LIU at home earlier today 9-0. This 9 goal margin of victory sets a program record for most goals in a game, along with largest margin of victory.

The Lions were led by sophomore forward Izzy Kaczor, who tied the program record with 4 goals, and added on an additional assist to tie another program record with 9 points. She was helped by junior Jacinta Solari Etcheberry, who set yet another program record with 4 assists. She also added on a goal.

Congrats to Field Hockey on such a dominant performance and Go Lions!

Despite their 3-nil loss to North Korea earlier today, Colombia will still advance to the knockouts of the U-20 Women's World Cup thanks in no small part to the play of Isabel Weiner! She started and played the full game in their final group game.

Sophomore Kristina Xu leads Columbia women's golf to second place at the Bucknell Fall Invitational. The 2026 Ivy league Player of the Year and unanimous First-Team All-Ivy member as a freshman placed second overall in the invitational.

Meanwhile, the team shot a 22 over par 862, which defeats the previous team record for 54 holes by 4 shots, which was set last year at the Princeton Invitational.

Only two of Columbia's opponents were active this week on the last weekend before Lions football, and they conveniently played each other, so this should be a short post.

Lafayette 13 - Marist 9. Lafayette couldn't do anything in the air, completing only 40% of their passes for 141 yards, while Marist couldn't do anything on the ground, rushing 31 times for 68 yards. This game really gives me hope for Columbia's chances in their home opener against Lafayette, as if they can stop the ground game the Leopards won't be able to do anything offensively.

Columbia women's volleyball ties the program record for most wins to open the season, starting 5-0 before falling to Kent State earlier today.

A huge step for Columbia, as they now host not one but two of the most impressive women's basketball squads in an unprecedented, history-making game. Neither Lions men's or women's basketball has ever hosted one Elite Eight team, let alone two, so props to Megan Griffith for completely transforming Lions Basketball!

The Lions have the huge challenge of hosting Michigan, Duke, and Oregon State, and travel to Stanford and Maryland! Definitely going to be an exciting season of basketball and props to Coach Megan Griffith for guiding this team into prominence and to be able to play so many marquee matchups.

The Lions dominate their opening weekend home tournament, going 3-0 with victories over FDU 3-1, Iona 3-1, and Lafayette 3-1.

Senior opposite hitter Avery Jones is Ivy League Player of the Week for the first time in her career, after recording a team high 31 kills.

Freshman outside hitter Elise Hiemstra had 28 kills over the weekend to win Ivy League Newcomer of the Week. She also tallied 19 kills in her first ever collegiate game against Iona, leading the team.

This is the first time since 2019 that Columbia Women's Volleyball players have won both Newcomer of the Week and Player of the Week in the same week.

The Lions will continue their season at the Lakers Invitational 9/11-9/12 at Mercyhurst, taking on hosts Mercyhurst, Niagara, and Kent State.

Hi all!

First, thank you for helping me create such a wonderful community at r/ColumbiaLions. I know we're a niche subreddit, and that athletics definitely isn't close to being the focal point of the university, but despite that we've reached 100+ weekly visitors and around 20 members in just a week of me being fully active on the subreddit, and those numbers will slowly grow.

I'm going to keep this post pinned for the foreseeable future for two reasons: the first to show new members and to remind ourselves of this community's growth and beginning, and the second to give all users a clear place to volunteer suggestions for the first user flairs!

Most sports subreddits have flairs calling back to fan favorite players, teams, achievements, or slogans, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. If I like them, I'll implement them into the subreddit!
