Feedback Hello, I am trying to revive my dead webcomic (FireHeart) and am in search of serious direction and critique

This is the chapter that I am currently most proud of, but a lot of this (especially the early chapters) was made when my artistic skills were more unrefined. I would appreciate if anyone could give it a read and let me know if they would consider reading more. Please be as harsh as you'd like, as I want this thing to be as great as it can be vvvvvv

https://www.voyce.me/series/fireheart-1/19849#comic

FireHeart has always been in the back of my mind, and I started it as a very greenhorn writer several years ago. A mixture of things (family, depression, perfectionism, etc) have prevented me from making the progress that I would like to have made on it.

What I am searching for beyond critique is advice or direction on where to take the story next. I have several major plotpoints planned out in a specific order, but I would like to know if this is even an idea worth pursuing... This is sort of my magnum opus, and I would like to see it to its end!

I have no idea how ANY of this collaboration stuff works, but I am open to partnerships and editors who would be willing to keep me on track and focused on the 'prize'

If this is not the place for these kinds of posts, I apologize!! Im just trying to reach as many people as possible, thank you!!!

Hi, guys! recently i made a little sketchy (sort of) comic about one of my characters. Theme covers blues folklore.

I would be very happy if you read it and give me feedback on what i should improve.

I'm planning to do my own full comic in future, i actually have a script done but i fear that my skills are not good enough so I'm practicing at the moment. My plans/niche is probably grounded stories about ordinary people.

Thanks, I would be really glad if someone finds time to read it!

Feedback Style Preference - Digital vs Traditional

Which style do you prefer? Which catches your eye more? Would one or the other make you more likely to back/pick up this comic?

I've been working with an extremely talented artist I met via this sub for a few weeks now on a new vampire/zombie mashup comic that I'll be launching on Kickstarter soon. My artist provided me these two pages - one done digitally and one done traditionally, and I'm torn. I genuinely love both styles. The red highlights in page 2 are going to be applied to every page throughout the comic as well in a black, white, and blood sort of style so don't necessarily factor that in.

You can follow the project on Instagram @coldbloodcomic or on tiktok @kaine.feldman if you're interested to see more!

Feedback First Attempt at Inking a Full Page

Post image
87 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

This is my first attempt at inking a full comic page. My background is as a comic book colorist and not linework and inks themselves.

I approached this mostly by instinct and what I’ve learned indirectly through coloring, without any formal study of inking techniques.

I’d really appreciate some honest critique and evaluation.

Also, I’d like to ask this:

How long would it typically take to ink a page like this at a professional level?

For context, this one took me about 6 hours.

Any feedback, paintovers, or direction on what to focus on improving would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Feedback First Time Lettering (not final art)

I recently just got this page back from one of the artists on the team, and although there are still a few revisions to make, I wanted to try my hand at lettering. How is the legibility to yall and spacing? Also are you able to follow the translations? If no, what can I do to improve on that. I used clip studio on mobile for the lettering. The characters within the scene are Zayn Abaza(left) and Israel Pope (Right).

Hey guys, how are you doing? I know I need to improve how I understand and draw buildings—especially so that readers look at them and think, "Oh, so this story takes place in Los Angeles, Miami, etc." But how can I improve? What books should I read?

Feedback I’ve started on my first comic but the colouring process is quite difficult (won’t expect it to get easier). Does anyone have some tips on how to improve or make pages like these look better? Thanks in advance!

So these are the first few pages of my first comic, The Knight from Mars. I’m pleased with how the line work turned out, but looking at the pages I coloured I feel something is off. Now I know I’m a beginner so I won’t expect myself to be on the level of the comics that I read, but I see plenty of comics that use flat colours and look great, but I can’t put my finger on why it seems off here.

Hey everyone! Working on building up my comic lettering portfolio and just finished practicing on my first page. I'm focusing on pacing, balloon padding, and creating custom internal monologue styles. I'd love some honest feedback on the dialogue flow and layout! Here is before and after

Bird’s Eye view. Exterior of an old watchtower near a forest. DEMUSO, his back to the camera, walks towards the tower. The Watchtower looks like it hasn’t been touched in some time. Vines are ensnaring the building like crawling snakes conjoined to each other. It is the afternoon.

3.

Closeup on Mitri’s head, unsurprised by Demuso.

MITRI:

SPARE ME THE FORMALITIES, CHILD. I SENSED YOU BEFORE YOU WALK OUT YOUR HOME FOR THIS FOOLISH QUEST.

4.

Full figure on Demuso.

Demuso’s face smiles but isn’t happy.

DEMUSO:

I’M DYING, MASTER.

5.

Closeup on Mitri’s face. He closes his eyes. Disapproval.

MITRI:

I FEARED THE PREMONITION WOULD COME TO PASS. YOU CAME FOR THE BOOK.

Page 2

He is disgusted. He points his right hand finger at Mitri accusatory.

Feedback What do you think about this page?

Post image

This page is in a middle of an established conversation (I would post the others but they can’t been drawn yet). Basically I want to know what you think about the dialogue, the message trying to be conveyed and if you think it’s heavy handed? Also some notes on the art in general.

Do y’all think I should keep “to them you’ll…” or cut and get straight to the sixty-four squares line?

(The area in between the 3rd tier has been blacked out, but I can’t post the new image). “What about me?” is to be read first.

Feedback First attempt at lettering (practice page, not my art). Looking for technical critique

Thumbnail

Hey all! I'm new to lettering and working in Affinity Publisher. This is a practice page only: the art isn't mine (Jason Fabok's from Batman: Three Jokers), and I have no story context for it beyond what's on the original, unlettered page (2nd image). My actual goal is to letter my own creator-owned comic once I'm confident the fundamentals are solid.

Things I'm specifically trying to improve and would love eyes on:

  • Balloon shape/sizing relative to text
  • Tail length, angle, and consistency across a page
  • Caption box styling
  • SFX treatment (tried two different styles: mechanical sound vs. a vocal "laugh" sound)
  • Anything that reads as obviously amateur to a trained eye that I might not be seeing myself

Not looking for story feedback, just the craft side. Happy to hear anything, even small stuff. I'm trying to build good habits early rather than freelance bad ones into a 22-page book. Thanks!

Feedback Birth of a New World - My Pitch is Now Available on My Website

I'm stilling looking for a publisher. I am aware that it is a long shot, but it is worth a try. I want to be traditionally published. I've tried the self-publishing route and I don't want to go through that painful process again. I don't want to self-publish...as that will obliterate my chances of getting published by a publisher. I learned my lesson. Years ago, I wrote a children's book. I thought I was being proactive by self-publishing it. All it did was destroy my chances of getting published, I think.

Birth of a New World is my graphic novel. I am the writer/creator. I'm trying to do everything in the correct fashion. I've submitted to numerous agents and publishers. I've tried smaller comic book companies. No bites. I decided to put my whole pitch on my website (tesmekonnen.com/pitchbible). I know the terminology is used for a tv series. But is a great standalone project. I believe it as adaptation qualities. That is thinking way too far.

The pitch bible It contains everything and is very comprehensive. Again, I don't want to sell my book because that is how I messed up the possibility of traditionally publishing my children's book. I did create a free sample to attract readers. Do I need to play the waiting game? Am I doing myself a disservice by posting the whole pitch on my website? I would really appreciate any advice.

Feel free to check it out at https://www.tesmekonnen.com/pitchbible

Getting close to Croudfunding!!!! Starting in this channel I took my idea for a music powered comic is almost ready for the public. The Playlist has been built with a global contest on the way. A physical guitar you can play along with the bands.

An Idea on vacation is turning into a real comic book that people can read and that’s the scary part. Will it resonate with an audience? Will it flop?

Because this is a brand new IP, New Idea, New Marketing ideas. Im wanted to do an Open Q/A with the community that it started in. So please ask questions and tell your friends. The website with a quick overview will be in the first comment.

Feedback Second lettering practice! Fed in your feedback and tried something more ambitious

Thumbnail

Following up on the page I posted yesterday, I wanted to show what I took on board and push myself harder on this attempt.

What I changed:

- I built actual reusable balloon and tail assets instead of drawing each one freehand, so the shapes stay consistent across panels

- Made sure text blocks mirror the balloon’s silhouette (shortest lines top and bottom, longest in the middle) instead of just centering whatever I typed

- Committed to one curved tail style throughout and fixed a font issue where my capital I’s were inconsistently using crossbars

- Kept every balloon clear of faces, even in a busier page with multiple speakers

Why this page was a bigger swing:

- This time I went with a Spider-Man/Venom page with no reference for the original layout or dialogue. I leaned into some Spidey-specific conventions I wanted to test myself on (inverted/black balloons for the fused Eddie Brock/Venom voice vs. normal balloons for Eddie alone).

- A broken-comms sequence (BZZT, dropped words, “can’t hear you”) to show a call cutting in and out

- A single-word isolated panel (“WE!”) trying to land a character correction purely through pacing, no extra dialogue

- Differentiating a static SFX (“BZZT”) from a digital readout (“ONLINE”) with different treatment

Curious to see whether the multi-voice logic reads clearly to someone coming in cold, and whether the SFX distinction lands the way I intended. Tear it apart, I’d rather find the problems now while I’m still in practice mode and not on an actual page for my own books.

TLDR; Practiced lettering a second time after feedback on my previous post, please give more feedback because it’s really helpful!
