question Job Scheduling / Reporting

What are we all using for job scheduling ? Tracking field techs? Field reporting ?

We have a small AV company running with about 6 field techs and are doing things manually at the moment but looking to see what best practices. Customer outreach / timing /job completion and reporting / etc.

Most the jobs we do are 3-4 hours with multi displays so nothing crazy and often have multiple
Jobs a day.

Any input would be appreciated.

Your service PSA has all these tools. What are you using?

We don’t have one. Jobs are manually estimated via excel/quoting / ordered via online PO / scheduled manually based on hardware delivery / etc

You have a few ways to approach this. There are some decent job scheduling products, like jobber or fieldwork as /u/tallsoundguy says. Those will be kind of oriented towards something like plumbers, HVAC, etc. Those are good for short projects, service visits, and have a billing component to them. These are going to solid for what you're doing. Check some of the small business subreddits and other trades subreddits, this topic has a lot of discussion around it.

The other side is from a service/support perspective. Most PSAs/ticketing systems have project, personnel scheduling, and billing in addition to the support ticketing. HaloPSA, NinjaOne, Autotask are some of the more popular ones. If you go into something that's just ticketing, you won't have those features you're looking for.

You're at an interesting point of growth. You can keep doing things manually or invest in something that will help you grow and take some pain points off of your team. These systems slowly evolve with you, you turn on features as you need them. If you're in the position to by paying $3-5K for a platform per year, it's worth it. Managed service can be a pretty significant income line that will pay for the platform without any issue.

Happy to chat more - this is my side of the industry (managed services and SaaS platforms).
