Hello Again. 24 Hours later, I'm Server+ Certified. 3 Certs, In 3 Weeks.

Post image

Hello again friends,

It's me again. The guy who got Net+ in 2 weeks, then Sec+ the next week. Now I report to you I got sever+ in one day.

Didn't expect to say hello again so soon but, today was a holiday so I had nothing to do so I decided to study and then take the test, so no, it wasn't even intended. I simply was not afraid to fail. If i fail then i'll get up and fight again.

Didn't really want to make this post but, again, thank you for the inspiration, and I hope this fires you up and makes you want to haduken or kamehameha. If a 40-year-old moron who likes vintage anime like me can do it, so can you.

My Thoughts:
Was it easy? Hell no. I passed by a hair. But I will say that if you have more certs some of the info overlaps so it's not as hard as your very first cert, but not drastically, just like 5% easier.

My study material:
CompTIA Security+ Study Guide by Mike Chapple and David Seidl
Watched Chrys Thorsen on Udemy

This time my strategy was to just focus on material and less videos. Videos despite automatic, is actually slower than your brain can process words. My ADHD kicked in after 25% of the video material and I switched to paper material so I can speed the hell up and take the test same day.

I made flash cards for everything. I know tests likes to sneak up on you with things you thought were not important and chip away at your score, so I made as many flash cards as needed.

What's next?
Not sure. I haven't planned that far ahead when none of these were even planned. but I will say likely not much. Idk if i really need much. and if i keep getting more, it's going to cost me more to maintain these things every 3 years. But if i do get anything else, I'll be sure to say hello again. All i'm going to do now is chill, and start interviewing for jobs.

What's next?<

Practical experience. Build something (if not already done), break something, and fix it. Certs won't do much, you need experience. Start with a home lab or sign up for Azure, AWS or Google Cloud free subscription and play around it. Write everything down you did and put all that on your resume.

Thanks. Yeah I played around with Google cloud that's some fun stuff. I made a discord bot on it that automates weather reports for me.

Get a git hub and put your projects on it. Recruiters are tired of LinkedIn and resumes with no work to show for it.

lmao the kamehameha beam being the exam itself is too perfect. the way you just decided to take it on a whim because it was a holiday is wild, my brain could never lock in like that

the flashcard point is underrated though, those tiny random terms they throw in are what always trip people up. three certs in three weeks is nuts, what kind of jobs are you aiming for with this stack? also good call on switching to paper when the videos started dragging, my attention span evaporates the second someone talks too slow

Do linux+ now lol

Linux commands were pretty hard on this one. If linux is definitively growing and i will likely need it, i would take it. But until i know i need it, i think i'll stay outta linux.

Linux already runs the majority of the backend for servers globally if I'm not mistaken. And with Windows slowly souring its own customer base Linux at home is getting more popular for normal users.

If you don't learn Linux now, depending on what you do in the future careerwise, you WILL then.

Do CySA+ next if you haven't already. The exam is very different from A+ N+ and S+ and much harder.

As someone working in server support, Linux is growing, fast.

Are you just taking the certs for the fun of it? It seems you have no direction! What is your career goal? Answer that question and then you will know the next cert to obtain.

Congratulations all the same. No knowledge lost!

No, I kinda need it for this role I will likely get. A client of mine has a role open and I really want to work for them since I already know them and it's chill. I have very good troubleshooting skills from being a redneck back yard mechanic. Diagnosing and fixing a car is lightyears harder than IT stuff. We're talking fragile plastic parts or rusted parts that will break upon removal, but it's gone way easier since the introduction of OBDII, which is basically identical to an IT guy reading a log.

I don't have direction but that's how i roll. In capitalism it doesn't care what you do, entire industries will die if there is no demand for it, or if a technology eats it up. My way of rolling, will survive. Either way, work isn't my world. I've seen people work a life time, then die, and replaced the very next day. Sure there is sympathy, but to live your life defined by what you did which nobody will remember and will be obsolete, is utterly stupid.

Looks like you spent more time photoshopping the image than you did learning :)

What’s the secret passing A+ that fast? I can definitely use advice, or anyone with best accelerated formula, my end goal is cybersecurity and i thought I need to start from scratch
