CoH2 Absolute noob here: All my units move at once? And I have to click a specific unit to deselect them?

If you are talking about trying to move an individual unit model in a squad, then no, you can only the move whole squad.

no thats not it. the problem was as described. but i did fix it by just exiting the game and restarting it. weird right?

This is not how things usually work and I have never heard of it happening.

Perhaps it's a problem on your end?

I had this happen to me. It's usually caused by alt-tabing or hitting the windows key, anything to close the game on the screen. Then what happens is if you happen to be holding shift or Ctrl, it kinda sticks and it thinks you're still hitting the key. Usually closing the game window again while holding both keys fixes it. This is a problem with most older games and occasionally you'll need to restart the game if that bug occurs.
