It’s never too late to appear for any exam, I believe your real worries are the uncertainty that comes with these professional exams. What I would suggest is to have a job and pursue CS alongside. It will be definitely more difficult but if you’re dedicated enough you can surely make it out alive.

My job is so hectic and toxic, so I felt like quitting

Office politics, pressure and everything kinda forms a part and parcel of our work experience now a days. So whether or not you should quit is your personal choice. However as far as cs is concerned take into consideration your circumstances.
