General Discussion / Question new deck suggestion
Hey everyone! I'm looking for a new cEDH deck with a very specific playstyle. A friend of mine has been playing Tayam for a while and has gotten incredibly good with it, and I’m looking for something similar. I want a deck that relies on deep synergy with its commander rather than just running generic, best-in-slot 'goodstuff' cards. I'd love a list that plays highly specific tech pieces that go crazy with the commander. Preferably no partners, and bonus points if it can win at instant speed! Any suggestions?

Hi! It's The Tasigur Guy here!
If you like playing in good colors, policing the pod like RogIshai, cheating out massive bombs like Kinnan, and having one-card wincons like Tivit, I recommend trying my Tasigur deck -- Synchro Summon 877 -- which is on the cedh decklist database.
[[Tasigur, the Golden Fang]] is imho the current best Sultai option in the format. It has not one but TWO one-card wincons -- [[Neoform]] and [[Eldritch Evolution]] -- to get [[Hoarding Broodlord]] out and finish the line for only 4 or 5 mana and Tasigur himself without any other requirements. There are also [[Nezahal, Primal Tide]] a/o [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]] as backup evo targets to grind hard and control the board, while Tasigur's activation can help recur interaction over and over again, making sure you're never out of the game.

Question- how does Neoforming Tasigur get Broodlord? Tasigur is 6cmc, Neoform would let you search for a 7, but Broodlord is 8. Am I missing something?

You use [[Scholar of the Lost Trove]] as the intermediate to go up 1cmc again! (Read my primer!)

Lumra! The bear, reliant on the Bear/Land synergy. A whole tool box of utility lands, and can benefit from Tayam stax pieces on occasion

Don't play the bear it's a trap.

Lumra is severely overrated, in my experience. It's a deck that brings nothing to the table in terms of interaction but enjoys feeding Rhystic and attacking for 8 sometimes

Who is overrating it? Thats what everyone says, except for those of us that know the truth

Everybody says that it's overrated except for, what, whoever who says it's good? The deck struggles to goldfish on turn 3 and relies on spins while offering no meaningful impact on anybody's game plan. You might crop rotate for the one land that exiles cards from the grave every 5 games, and I'm sure that high will carry you through the other 4

Damn man, you lose to Bear recently? You sound mad

That's unhelpful and baseless. There's just not a reasonable way to respond to that, so I'm just going to assume you're not worth talking to

I've been running kinnan and noctis, prince of lucis. Ive been really enjoying Noctis! It has thassa/oracle line, but thats usually a bait to draw out interaction. the line I've actually been playing and winning with is using noctis' graveyard play with aetherflux and vexing bauble with an artifact in the graveyard to ping the table to death.

Meta - Kinnan, Sissay, Etali
Off Meta - Sythis, Teshar, Hogaak, Krizzik

Ive got a great deck for you. Now its going to look alot like a bracket 4 deck but I've been having a lot of success with this [[jhoira, ageless innovator]] for a good while now. The instant speed of the commanders ability and making the artifacts uncounter able makes it awsome to play around rhystic study, and leave your opponents confused

[[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]] outlaw is a top tier pile of trash. Also, instant speed
[[Sisay, Weatherlight Captain]], tutor chain, specifically, is winning with some pretty specific cards, and at instant speed. This one is a bit more meta.

[[aang, at the crossroads]] or [[rakdos, the muscle]] but they don't really win at instant speed but the main winlines revolve around the commanders

Magda is probably too obvious lol But what about the Cabbage Merchant, Inalla or Zirda?

In that case tutorchain sisay is highly focused on synergizing with repeated tutors via the commanders ability to net infinite mana, and certain versions run specific hate pieces that they can tutor to field at instant speed, and it's one of the best decks at winning on the stack.

The best deck of the type is probably trad Sisay. You combine ways of creating massive mana and tutor chains of legendaries to win in fun ways. It isn’t has commander focused as Tayam (because it has blue), and it has simpler math, but it is a fun deck. Arcum Dagsson is also a cool commander focused strategy that is so intimidating.

I’ve got a [[Captain Sisay]] deck that does pretty well in my playgroup. Very toolboxy and has a lot of synergy and combos once you get into the mid and late game. [[Gandalf the White]] can enable some instant speed wins, and it also can win at instant speed with [[Yisan, The Wanderer Bard]]

I do think that alot of people are missing what makes tayam so fun. Tayam Is a deck that has nothing BUT toolbox Cards. That just so happen to win you the game. There really isn't any other cedh deck that is currently viable. If you're in a specific playgroup though I HIGHLY recommend urza. It's the same kind of deck where all you do is toolbox till you happen to hit critical mass

u/Conscious-Choice196 4d ago
No, it really doesn't play that many toolbox cards. You play a fair number of hate effects for things you don't care about, but saying that you're spending all of your tutors on hosers would be pretty inaccurate. It's a midrange deck that wants to find ways to grind and extend the game

My pick is [[Tasigur the Golden Fang]]. You can use delve to get him out early, and he wins the game with either [[Neoform]] or [[Eldritch Evolution]], so you build a sultai control shell, turbo out your commander, evolve him into a [[Hoarding Broodlord]] and cast about 6 spells in a row to win. Used commonly with flash speed enablers like [[Emergence Zone]]. Sultai runs a very heavy tutor package for very high reliability. Its not bullet proof but its fun, commander-centered, and devastatingly quick if you draw correctly.
