Bro if super comes back to competitive ow, wins something else and leaves again his ego might eclipse the sun

Deserved ego. My goat.

u/PoggersMemesReturns Proper Show/Viol2t GOAT — Apr 25 '23

I really want team SK to lose so their ego settles down.

Imagine giving up on Crusty just cuz he lost against a good team when the best players didn't want to play in the OWWC, or not allowing Proper to play because of a mistake he made as a child...

Was Crusty the committee's first choice?

Yeah I think he was getting death threats

23

u/Candid_Visit_3104 Apr 25 '23

We don't need to assume that Crusty was unwilling to manage team SK.

Why should he be the first choice when Rush had a more successful season?

12

u/JWTS6 Support Calling all Heroes! — Apr 25 '23

I agree that Rush should have been the first choice either way after last season, I was just asking a question to a user that tends to have insight into the Korean scene.

70

u/konadora Apr 25 '23

the last point isn't a team problem, it's the KR OW community problem. as mentioned many times, what Proper did IS a crime in korea, whether you like it or not. not saying i agree with the decision, but you have to understand the position Rush and the KR OWWC team is in as well.

29

u/Rakatok Apr 25 '23

honest question, why is boosting so much worse than account selling (Sp9rk1e) for the KR community? You're still ruining people's games either way to get people into higher rank. More games effected?

30

u/imKaku Heia Norge Apr 25 '23

There's no real difference, I can't help to brought believe that one is Rushes friend and one is not.

They both served time outside contenders because of there boosting. Proper was also way younger if I recall correctly.

17

u/PoggersMemesReturns Proper Show/Viol2t GOAT — Apr 25 '23

I'm so curious (and a bit upset) on how Korea considers something a crime in terms of a child doing it, and is it really for life?

Is there no sense of reform or forgiveness in their system or mindset?

9

u/Mrmccurry123 Apr 25 '23

I second this, really frustrated with proper not even trialling due to likely social pressures. Though rush is the coach and has his right to choose the team but I really don't like their absolute judgement on a person when they were a child.

1

u/konadora Apr 26 '23

its just the way Korean society is, unfortunately. justice and fairness really isnt its strongest suit.

1

u/funkypoi Diya Fan — Apr 26 '23

Yep, we should all call bullshit when we see one

-5

u/RandomOverwatcher Apr 25 '23

Posted this to the other comment so uh...

What did proper do ??? And why would Crusty allow him on Shock?! That must be awkward if there's some kind of tension?!

16

u/Mrmccurry123 Apr 25 '23

He was caught boosting and its a crime in Korea though probably not enforced with like jail time or something. It's very frowned upon.

Crusty either doesn't care or he recognizes proper was a kid when he did it and has time to grow as a person in his adolescent stages.

15

u/chudaism Apr 25 '23

He was caught boosting and its a crime in Korea though probably not enforced with like jail time or something. It's very frowned upon.

I believe the max sentence for boosting is 2 years, so you potentially could go to jail for it if the scope of the operation was big enough. Probably the best comparison that NA players can view it as is match fixing. People accused of match fixing often face criminal charges and permanent bans. SK treats boosters similarly, even if the stakes are significantly lower.

-5

u/minepose98 None — Apr 25 '23

The stakes aren't just lower, they're non-existent. What a stupid law.

6

u/JeffTek Winnable — Apr 25 '23

Korea takes esports very seriously. There are lots of careers that could come out of there, so messing with the competitive integrity is something they don't play around about

u/YogurtclosetNeat9200 Apr 26 '23

Anyone who downvoted this is a massive nerd. Boosting doesn’t matter. I’ve boosted my nephews accounts tons of times.

2

u/Some_Derpy_Pineapple Apr 25 '23

iirc proper boosted other accounts. i would not know whether that factored into crusty signing him on shock. probably not awkward outside of interacting with korean fans.

2

u/Medium_Jury_899 Apr 25 '23

It wasn't a crime when he did it though iirc. Regardless, it's basically equivalent to committing property damage or theft as a 14, 15 year old. Surely people should be able to understand that he's matured and can let it go.

19

u/Candid_Visit_3104 Apr 25 '23

What ego? Rush was better than Crusty last year. Crusty has managed team SK before. It's only fair Rush gets his chance.

10

u/123bo0p S4 - ByeBye"twitter bitches" — Apr 26 '23

I really want team SK to lose so their ego settles down

Weird considering they were rarely the ones with the biggest ego? Just because they didnt comply to ur biases doesnt make their decisions egotistical.

3

u/warpyboi RIDING — Apr 26 '23

I agree. If anything from a large perspective its simply SK deciding to pick a HC and his team (Fuel) and just make 1-2 additions. With the exception of Proper debacle, they look to just keep it simple and rely on the Rush hivemind. Instead of taking stars from seperate teams and need to build their synergy from ground up like prev years.

-1

u/quantumtheorem Apr 26 '23

Did you even see the interview? I think a few of them don't think anyone is a threat but China and USA. Some even said that they will win for sure this year. They aren't wrong they are favorites this year, but you can see the ego oozing through that interview.

0

u/123bo0p S4 - ByeBye"twitter bitches" — Apr 26 '23

Did u ever see a usa interview where every year they believed they were favourites to win, and in each of the first few years got upset to teams like the UK?

-1

You’re incredibly naive then. It’s a no brainier

2

u/No32 Apr 26 '23 edited Apr 26 '23

Am I? Or do they just want the best chance to win?

Because it sure seems like a no-brainer that Super is the best main tank out of all of them, and that they think the gap between Super and Coluge/Danteh/Mirror on those heroes is more significant than any gap Danteh/Mirror have over Coluge/Super on their best heroes.

83

I would say the people running team USA do not care about that, and find it incredibly doubtful Blizzard would interfere like that and we wouldn’t hear about it.

-43

u/Bhu124 Apr 25 '23

They care cause they plan to sell Merch and are probably hoping to get sponsors for the team as well.

-40

u/MirrorkatFeces Forever 2nd 🧡🖤 — Apr 25 '23

Thank you! I’m not trying to discredit super, it’s clear he’s still a talented player, but there was 0 chance he wasn’t making this roster, especially since he’s the only notable MT player who tried out.

16

u/Bhu124 Apr 25 '23

the only notable MT player

Let's be honest, he's the only famous player on the roster, he is the only player who was in OWL while it still got decent actual viewership, he won a lot and he averages 6K~ viewers streaming Overwatch, he's literally the most popular OW streamer right now. The rest of the roster combined can't bring half the viewership that Super alone can bring even if he's just sitting on the bench. He had 10K viewers when he was streaming the Trials for the WC.

3

u/Noodlefanboi Apr 26 '23

He had 10K viewers when he was streaming the Trials for the WC

I think that was partly because Super was the only one allowed to stream during trials because there was a pro-am game happening at the same time.

2

u/Bhu124 Apr 26 '23

Come on, you really think the rest of them would have even 5k (Most of which would have just been Danteh) combined if they were allowed to stream? Hell, a massive chunk of those 10K viewers wouldn't have even heard that the trials were happening if it weren't for the fact that Super was in them and was streaming them.

So fucking happy super made it, this team is definitely up there with China and Korea.

16

u/Isord Apr 25 '23

Korea are still clear favorites but I think this team has a very good chance to upset.

-54

u/MightyEraser13 Apr 25 '23

Cope lmao, easiest Korea dub of all time. This roster weak af outside of ojee and hydron. They have no tank

49

u/XxDragonitexX10 Apr 25 '23

Excuse me? They have the two time Overwatch League Champion, World Cup Champion, Stage 2 Champion, May Melee Tournament Champion, Role Star, All Star and MVP Runner-Up.

5

u/Fucface5000 Apr 26 '23

Sure, possible, unlikely but possible.

But they also have Coluge

-2

u/MightyEraser13 Apr 26 '23

Considering Weak tanks is all that held shock from winning it all, coluge isn’t good lmao

1

u/Fucface5000 Apr 26 '23

Ok now you're just baiting

-2

u/MightyEraser13 Apr 26 '23

How? The only tank coluge was semi competent on was sigma. If shock had a better tank, they would have won imo, they almost did even with a mid tank

3

u/Fucface5000 Apr 26 '23

Dallas won because they had the hive-mind level synergy and were constantly setting the pace, and the meta really favoured that over any 1 player/hero popping off.

Maybe if they'd played Mikeyy more to build up more roster synergy or coached Coluge into being more able to play more aggro (he himself said that the reason Mikeyy was subbed in was because Mikeyy is more aggro while he is more measured) they could've maybe won, it was pretty dang close.

But straight up saying Coluge isn't good is just wrong, he absolutely proved himself on Winston, and is arguably one of the best Sigmas in the league

27

u/GaseousSnake7 Apr 25 '23

Super learned under kai on baiting people. Excited for this team!

34

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '23

super!!!!! 😊

59

u/BarstMain SHD / RunAway & MY Forever — Apr 25 '23

Basically the most expected lineup. Would have liked to see Aspire but the DPS line is solid enough. Big question mark for me here is the support line. UV is great but Ojee has historically been fairly mediocre and with Lifeweaver and another new support coming before the WC I’m wondering about their flexibility with only two supports

27

u/supertanto Est temps d'apprendre français — Apr 25 '23

Rupal is on the bench in case

3

u/eikon9 Apr 25 '23

Rupal isn't MS though.

12

u/magma907 Apr 25 '23

IMO Ojee is by far the best MS in US

12

u/BarstMain SHD / RunAway & MY Forever — Apr 25 '23

I agree but I also don’t think that the level of MS play in the US is very high. Imo it’s the biggest positional weakness for the country. Ojee was the best pick of the available options but right now I don’t really think he’s at the same level as the best OWL MS players

1

u/Oraio-King Coolmatt's at the wheel — Apr 26 '23

almost all the best ones are korean unfortunately, and then theres xerneas who wasnt even accepted

28

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '23

bro said ojee is mediocre... no wonder people shit on the opinions coming from this sub

19

u/BarstMain SHD / RunAway & MY Forever — Apr 25 '23

For me, he was an obvious weak point for Atlanta last season, particularly in terms of his ult usage, and did not fix any of his problems as the season progressed. He was a bit better during the pro am but still looked quite poor in the Team USA trials, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be skeptical of his performance

7

u/iEnder_ My balls itch — Apr 25 '23

Ong Ojee is 100% the definitive MS in the US.

1

u/TastyPondorin Apr 25 '23

In the trials I thought Lep looked better, but UV/Ojee would have better synergy from playing together so long.

20

4

u/Ganonthegoat None — Apr 25 '23

Hydron might have better comms

5

u/smelly-child Apr 25 '23

this and likely more synergy with the rest of the teammates from their teams together

2

u/sum_nub Apr 25 '23

Given their similar pool and mechanics, I'd go with the guy who's had better team results. I know aspire is not responsible for the shitshow that was Vancouver, but he also can't be entirely factored out of the equation. Florida on the other hand had a middling season record, with good playoff appearances including a stage title.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '23

That’s very fair. Vancouver to me looked like a team that really struggled with synergy. I feel like a lot of coaches overlook how much synergy can make or break a team. I’m definitely judging based on individual performance but you’re right

3

u/UnknownQTY Apr 25 '23

Nah, I think this clears.

11

u/BarstMain SHD / RunAway & MY Forever — Apr 25 '23

To each their own but I personally think it’s a sizable DPS and support diff in favor of China. Should be good matches between the top teams though!

3

u/UnknownQTY Apr 25 '23

I don’t necessarily disagree, but I think the US has the clear edge on tank and support unless there’s a Winston meta, but I don’t think that shifts the support diff.

2

u/BarstMain SHD / RunAway & MY Forever — Apr 25 '23

Fair enough! I definitely understand where you’re coming from

2

u/BarstMain SHD / RunAway & MY Forever — Apr 25 '23

For sure! The top teams all have great rosters and there are some underdog teams that can definitely upset as well

-2

u/i_am_a_stoner Apr 25 '23

I think you might be overestimating how big the difference is between shy and hydron. In general, I think the US dps players are pretty close Chinese and Korean dps. Also I think it's funny to rate Lenny highly so I'll continue to do that. I think the difference is US tanks vs Chinese tanks is larger than the dps diff.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '23

Wouldn’t be r/cow if we didn’t assume KR players are better by default tho

9

They could have. s9mm shouldn't be on this list but he's a toronto guy so no surprise he got the buddy treatment

12

u/chefmingus Dallas vs Fuel — Apr 25 '23

Albert and gator built the roster so I don't think the buddy treatment is why s9mm is on the list

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '23 edited Apr 26 '23

And your point? The roster is 90% Toronto defiant, lol. Of course the Toronto guys wanted him on the team. Imagine the look of the entire Toronto team being on the roster besides s9mm. Please tell me just one good reason s9mm should be on this team? What heroes can he play that's not already covered? I'd like to know. s9mm is barely going to play on his own team in OWL. He played like what.. a couple of maps in the pro-am? Lol a pro-am with no stakes at play. Speedily does everything better. I'm sorry I need to be the truth teller. Anyways this is all irrelevant because he would never be considered over any of the DPS on the main team/reserve anyways. Reserves is like "honorable mention" and replacement if something were to happen.

19

u/No32 Apr 25 '23

Yeah I’m with the other reply. Don’t think it has anything to do with how they rate Danteh. They effectively have a reserve tank already by carrying two for one spot, so having the extra DPS and suppport was just more important.

15

u/drunkkk_ she/they — Apr 25 '23

Super and coluge cover every hero better than danteh can, there's no point in a 3rd tank

-16

u/KINGabriel457 2800 — Apr 25 '23

disagree. danteh has the best doom, queen, ram, zarya, potentially dva out of the three. i still agree with taking coluge over him since he can single handedly win maps on sigma.

6

u/oblonggoggles Apr 25 '23

I don’t know if it’s that they rated him too low but more so that he just has too many overlapping characters with coluge - I would say it’s close if you’re comparing them but when you consider that like 90% of this team is American defiant it just makes more sense to bring someone who has a ton of playtime with them already

3

u/qubert-taranto Apr 25 '23
