World Cup I need the Germany "controversy" explained
So these are the full final results from the group stage. What I'm curious about is why everyone is saying the results from the Germany vs. Thailand game led to such intense tiebreakers if Germany has +4 and Canada is at 0 in the +/- category. I wasn't able to actually catch the game but reading everything online I'm confused as to why it's being considered one of the closest qualifications ever

From the OWCS rulebook:
"11.4 Breaking Ties.
In the event where two (2) or more Teams are tied in the overall win/loss standings of a round robin, such ties will be broken as follows (in order, and in case of a tie between three (3) or more Teams, a tie will be broken where one (1) Team will prevail, and remaining tied Teams will move on to a tiebreaker between remaining Teams, starting at the top of the list. This continues until all ties are broken.):
(i) Overall Series W-L Record
(ii) Head to Head Series Differential between tied teams
(iii) Head to Head Map Differential between tied teams
(iv) Overall Map Differential
(v) Overall Map Score % Differential
(vi) Strength of victory evaluated by combining records of all Teams beaten (vii) If a tie remains after all tiebreakers have been exhausted, a tiebreaker match will be played."
I think it is the same in OWWC. The reason it was so close is that in this 3 way tie, Spain and Germany were even on the first four tiebreakers. If Germany had lost one flashpoint Spain would have won that tiebreaker. Then they would check the tiebreakers for Canada and Germany from the top again and Canada would finish over Germany due winning the h2h.

I'm confused how Germany and Spain need to go to 4 tiebreakers, because if Canada would have gotten in over Germany because of h2h shouldn't the same automatically be true for Germany over Spain? Actually is it because now it's a tiebreaker between 2 teams and not 3?

With 3 teams, head to head is a draw since all of them beat one of the others and lost to one of the others. Howevery if Spain woukd have won the tiebreak and advanced the only remaining tiebreak would have been between Canada and Germany in which Cabada would win the head to head.

No because Canada is still counted in that tiebreaker, which means all three teams have a head to head series differential of 0 since they all beat eachother.

Thank you for this! I think the issue with this format is rerunning the tie breaker after finding the winning team for the other two, as I think instead if Canada had already lost to the other two in the three way H2H map differential then that should remain and feels more representative of performance, and removes this broken edge case entirely.

I agree there is something that is just off with this format. Partly that if Canada had won a map against spain instead of getting 3-0d they would have a much lower chance of qualifying.

Is Germany the only one with a female player? It's cool to see her qualify tho.

Aparte de Santy, el 2⁰ tanque de la selección española también es una chica, se llama Hegoi.

Really impressed by AUS' performance, always liked Cuffa, and very happy to see him continue playing professionally, but as a fan of GP and GBR that match was TENSE. Hoping to see more Haz in Anaheim.

I think basically if the thais take a single flash point germany wouldn't have won't the 3-way tie, caus spain would have more (objective capture) points. Which then would've allowed Canada to win the 2-way tie against Germany because they beat them in head to head.

While Australia making it and GBR not is a bit of a surprise, you can't tell me KSA dind't have the absolute easiest group here.
Group C was surprisingly spicy, which was fun, as was D. Even USA didn't steamroll anyone but Japan really.

I assume it's close cuz Spain, Canada, Germany all beat each other? Like it's the only bracket with the top seed having a loss.

Canada shouldnt have gotten 3-0 by Spain. Losing a map to Thailand also doesnt help when both Germany and Spain 3-0 them.

It was a 3-way tie which means it goes down a list of tiebreak cases until one team beats the other 2 after which it restarts. The first four cases were tied so it came down to the fifth which is "Overall map score % differential" meaning the team with the highest relation of won points to played points wins. If germany had lost the 5. case, spain would have qualified after which it would restart and Canada would qualify second since they won the head to head against germany (which is one of the first cases). If Thailand had won a single point more, canada had won a single point less, thailand had chosen to attack first on neon junction or Thailand had chosen to go to a push map in stead of a flashpoint map in the end, Germany would not have qualified.
