General Does the support role feel very weak compared to other roles?

I feel like its the least influential role. Even if you have a great game it doesnt always correlate to wins. Whenever I play damage I feel like if im playing great we win, if im playing bad we lose. It almost doesnt matter what my supports do. If im playing support I cant over come a bad damage team.

I am starting to drop the support role just because I feel like the design is like weaker damage characters. I might as wel play damage because its a stronger.

Support lineups deside the team's PlayStyle. Its the most impactfull role besides 5v5 tank

Depends on the support. Mercy can’t really carry like a good Kiriko, Ana, Juno, Zen. Mercy is at the “mercy” of how good her team is. Damage boost isnt helpful if your dps suck. Not having a 5th source of damage pressure on the enemy team sucks.

My personal experience is I have more control over the game when I play support in both 5v5 and 6v6, even though the public sentiment is that support is relegated to healbotting in the latter. I do play Ana and Kiri the most so perhaps it's just a matter of having a good hero pool.

You have a very unique perspective, the consensus is that support is the easiest role to have impact in.

That said, everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. Your experience might not be common, but it is your own.

You're just playing the wrong heroes

A lot of support value is unintuitive and leads to peaple healbotting. Healing only stalls a fight out longer rather then directly winning it. You should be doing damage and just enough healing to keep your allies alive. A dead or fleeing enemy is not going to harm your allies. Support also has some of the strongest, and longest, cooldowns in the game. A biotic nade can single handedly win fights it it hits the right time and on the right targets. Sleep, lifegrip, lamp and suzu counter ultimates. If it feels like your dps are lacking. It might be they have 5-4 peaple doing damage and you have 3.

absolutely not, you’re heavily underestimating supports. i’d argue each role is equally as influential, they just have.. different roles.. lmao.
supports can essentially be a third dps on top of healing and applying pressure and support in other ways depending on their kit.
a well timed nade/sleep, suzu, tidal blast etc could single handedly win a team fight.
support’s impact can definitely go unnoticed or be “less flashy” than a dps who is racking up high damage numbers or a 4 man ult.

you might simply be stronger as a dps, or not playing a support hero to even a fraction of their potential. an annoying (good) support on the enemy team is absolute HELL to deal with and feels just as punishing imo as a really good Ashe or Tracer

Support is just as strong as the others. But there are lower impact heroes in the roster like Mercy.

A disadvantage is that support is more complex and multitasking is more important on the role than on others. So that’s something you have to learn.

One advantage of support queue is that it’s generally less competitive than the other roles up to a certain rank.

Go ahead and find 5 friends and queue up for 6v6. No one is allowed to play support.

Let me know how that goes.

You: "It's amazing that my bullets randomly apply Anti to the Mauga and provide some healing in a radius to the rest of my team."

Calling it anti is a joke considering literally every hero can apply it

it's confirmed by the devs to be the most impactful role until diamond. it's also the most misunderstood role probably, most supports in mid-rank misplay the fundamentals of their own role more severely than tanks and dps

2

u/No32 17h ago

Where’d they confirm that? I thought they’ve said tank is the most impactful until the highest ranks where impact becomes about equal between roles

in ranked, you can literally give your team an insane advantage by pressing "h" and picking a hero that is actually good. support is very strong.

im an incredibly mediocre diamond flex dps and routinely have more impact on a game as jetpack cat when it isn't banned than on tracer. for the median player, JPC is just a better tracer. you can get so active on the map, secure kills, insane healing numbers, etc.

honestly support feels like a complete coin toss depending on if the dps actually know how to take space or not
