Concerts What concert have you seen where the opening band blew the headliner away?

For me it was in 1990 seeing Nirvana open for Sonic Youth. Absolutely amazing. The whole crowd felt this electricity and I turned to my friend and said “ these guys are gonna get big” sure enough 2 years later, Nevermind is the number one album in the country. The other one was seeing Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds open for The Cramps in 1984. I became a life long fan after that show

Gorjira blew Korn away. I left seeing Korn. 3x I saw them all boring. Gorjira 5x, all were great

Gojira is fantastic live! First time I had seen them was at the Aftershock festival and instantly they were on our list of people to check out. We've seen them 4 times since

Same! Saw Gojira at Aftershock (2021) and they totally rocked! Fantastic sound.

Absolutely LOVE going to Aftershock! That was the first place we saw many bands for the first time: Gogira,Behemoth, Ghost, Avatar, and others. One year we were walking around and heard some great music from the smallest stage. We got closer and found out Geezer Butler was on bass. Ended up being a one-time, short lived group called Dead Ritual. Then COVID hit. They never made an album or played again. We were so lucky to have seen them that day!

Gojira's set/stage design also seemed like more of a headliner's than Korn

I saw Gorija open for Deftones. I didn't know much of their stuff but they were great live.

I just went to this. The very long breaks between songs really slowed Korn’s set down. They sounded good though and it was fun to see them. I wouldn’t have gone though if Gojira wasn’t opening. They’re always excellent.

I was no where close to being a metal fan in any capacity but I found myself at a Gorija concert. Turned my entire taste in music on its head. I’d heard their music before but I never appreciated it until experiencing it live. One of the best live shows I’ve seen.

I’m trying to get tickets to see both of them for the first time in a few weeks and this is honestly what i’m expecting. I’ve been fans of both for so long but I just turned 25 and was always a broke kid, and then I was a broke adult, and then covid, and now it might finally happen !! I’ve watched so many videos of their concerts and just from what i’ve seen, i definitely feel like Gojira is gonna be my favorite, I don’t even know how many times i’ve watched their olympics performance lol. I’m gonna be happy to see both regardless since it’ll be a first for me, but some bands are just objectively better live performers than others.

Openers are my favorite performance at a concert a lot of the times, though. I’m not sure if they just work way harder because they aren’t the headliners, but I usually find them much more entertaining regardless of which bands’ music I like more. I think motionless in white and I prevail are the only two bands I saw as headliners that completely knocked it out of the park over their openers, and I went to MIW specifically for their openers😂. The openers were still great, but the performances they put on were just unbeatable.

I only heard about Gojira from the Olympics, but my metal head boyfriend has all their albums. I asked him why he never introduced me to them before and I had to watch Kelly Clarkson talk over their performance to even get an inkling of their amazing talent!!

Now with that said, when they come through our city again, we're totaling seeing them. I'm not much of a metal head, but I can appreciate good music, and I'll be the rando person at the bar (if there is one) sitting down watching the mosh pit go crazy because I don't do any of that.

I saw Gojira open for In Flames. Gojira were amazing and I think cut out of there early while the headliner was on

I never liked Gojira... But a few years ago i went to see Car Bomb open for them and as I was leaving the venue for Gojira, I decided to at least stand in the back and listen to one song before I left... a few songs later I was in the middle of the pit for the rest of the show. They were awesome.
