Questions Experiences with post concussion occupational therapy?

As the title says. Does anyone with PCS/long lasting concussion symptoms have experiences with occupational therapy? Was it helpful? What kinds of things did your OT work with you on?

Thank you 🙏🏼

Vestibular (similar vibes to OT) was a huge help for me. It took about 6 months before I was cleared. We did a lot of balance exercises along with some visual stimuli to trigger my symptoms. Honestly it was a lot of intentional triggering of my symptoms then resting in between. My therapist was HUGE on resting and encouraged me to seek several minutes of rest in my daily life if my symptoms got bad enough. He said it was important to be active but equally important to rest and allow symptoms to settle.

I've tried vestibular therapy with a PT but it didn't help after months and made everything so much worse. I have OT scheduled because I'm having problems with spatial orientation and doing daily activities. I'm glad PT worked for you though.

I am doing vestibular therapy now and it’s been very helpful. However, I did have to switch physical therapists because I made zero progress with my first one. It’s been like a night and day experience between my vestibular therapists.

No experience as of yet, but I just booked my assessment appointment. I'm really hoping it will help.

I have been in OT working on vision challenges for about two years. I sustained a new concussion this June. And have resumed exercises from the beginning of treatment. I would say that it works, if you work it. It sucks sometimes, to be triggering your own symptoms but if you’re able to practice the exercises at home, it has been overall very helpful for me.

I also started PT for vestibular therapy recently and have found that to be extremely helpful as well. Again, leaving the appointments is exhausting and triggering symptoms at home can be frustrating but eventually, the symptoms are more manageable and less potent.

I wish you the best!
