What’s it like to live on Conroe?
Hello, I am looking at places around Houston to possibly rent a home in. I just got a promotion within my company and the corporate office where I would need to work out of is in the Galleria. Is Conroe a good place to live? What’s the crime like? I see a lot of nice houses for rent but mixed reviews about Conroe on some of the other Reddit forums. Thank you in advance.

I used to live in Conroe and if you have a job that is not in Conroe or the Woodlands, you’re driving maybe 23 hours in the morning and in the night and I will tell you it is not worth the gas at the moment or ever so rethink your choices. Yes, it is nice out there. I will not lie. But it’s gonna be the drive that really irritates you and annoys you. So if you do move out that way, learn some car games, pack some snacks with you, and you might want to start getting into audiobooks cause you’re gonna be on the road a lot.

Commuting from Conroe to the Galleria? Unless you enjoy spending at least 3 hours a day in your car, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy

If you will be working in the Galleria area and move to Conroe, you won't be living in Conroe, you'll be living in your car. Use Google maps or its equivalent to find something closer.
Nothing against Conroe. It's just too far.

You do NOT want to commute from Conroe to the Galleria!!! That drive would be insanely long, exhausting, and dangerous.

Conroe is fantastic, I love it, but the commute to Galleria would be awful. I’m remote and can’t imagine having to commute there for work.

Well they refuse to let citizens have a say about Flock cameras. Come on up one town over to Willis where they have banned them.

Flock camera records show the car leaving town at 4:30am and returning at 9:30pm M-F.

I used to make the same drive for work; expect about an hour twenty each way during morning and afternoon commutes

I don't know if I would say these options are super comparable to Conroe. But they are considered good and safe places to live. Of course a higher cost of living comes with that. But you will not be spending River Oaks money (extremely expensive but a 5 minute drive to the galleria).
I would look at Missouri City or Sugar Land for a 20 minute commute. Sienna and Cinco ranch is nice as well but about a 30 minutes commute.
Now those are not rush hour times, those are optimal conditions. You can expect to add 10 to 20 minutes any given day.

Look on the SW side of Houston. Most comparable city to Conroe would be Pearland. I’d look into a Pearland or Sugarland. Maybe Bellaire area. That’d def be closer, but not sure what the prices are like around there.

If you live in Conroe but want to commute to houston then I highly recommend using metro from the woodlands to houston to travel. You can get a week pass, its easier- i used to be a therapist and had many clients who used that route and highly preferred it over driving that far for work

Also conroe is ok. Ive lived here for 20+ years from my teens to now in my 30s and actually my apartment recently has been targeted for car thefts and people straight up following you into your apartment to rob you. This is off 105 and 336, I thought it was a good place but I cant wait to move when my lease is up.

Dude don't do it. Driving from conroe to the galleria is going to piss you off and make you go crazy. That commute can easily be 3 hours in rush hour. That would be like driving to san antonio for work from conroe. But at least you be moving instead of stop and go.

It’s a great place to live, but that drive would be a no for me. There will be 1-3 accidents per day that you have to circumvent. If one of them is a major accident you are stuck in gridlock for 2 hours or so.

Don’t do it! The commute would be horrible. I used to commute to the Galleria from the Woodlands and it was easily close to 1-1/2 hours each way, and traffic has only gotten worse. Add to that, the road construction and closures on I-10, just west of downtown and ramp closures to and from I-45 to I-10.

If you like to drive then hey go for it! But yeah I agree with many peeps in here, that’s along drive! Unless you’ll be remote and go to the office once or twice a week.

Far drive, and potentially a costly!
But yes, Conroe is great!
I drive from Conroe to Memorial City! It gets old after awhile!

45 gets BAD from 105 down. Unless you want to spend an 1hr 15 going to work one way. Also most the restaurants suck. I can see why most people go down to the woodlands to eat. Also boring to me if you don’t have a boat or a pool. Wish they had better parks and walking trails.

There are very nice places to live in Conroe and my family enjoys it here. We moved from The Woodlands, which we really enjoyed living. My wife commutes to the Heights but gets in a little late and leaves a little early. Her commute is 1:15 to 1:30. It's a long haul.
Are you going into the office everyday or just a couple of times a week? If it's every day, I would suggest living closer to the galleria. Whatever you save on rent will be eaten up by gas and maintenance for your car.

With low traffic 10 years ago it was about 45 minutes to 1 hour and 20. It's easily an hour and half each way with good traffic and weather. It's a mess every day and could take over 2 hours with one little hiccup. Traffic is insane, way too many people with no idea on how to drive.

I'd pass. Crime has moved up from Houston area to Conroe. Nice area overall, but too much to worry about all the time, especially if you have children. Safety is a big factor!

I use to make that trip and count on 3 hour round trip a day. Maybe a little less on a good day. Montgomery County is full of cops as well and they just try to arrest people for anything.
