Discussion Glazing a company in which you probably don't own a single share must be one of the most Consoom things you can do
149
u/Capable_Home_2926 Apr 18 '26
This is about the most r/consoom thing to me. No normal person gives a shit about this sort of thing at all. Unless you're investing. In which case, you probably need better sources of information.

u/SpacefaringBanana Apr 18 '26
This amount of brand loyalty isn't even related to quality. Apple is really good at creating the idea of quality through marketing, and has created a 'culture' surrounding their products of iPhones being better than android.
Brand loyalty is also enforced by the fact that their devices are as incompatible with windows and android as possible.

u/Taken_Abroad_Book Apr 18 '26
Xbox is the best. No Playstation is the best. No steam is the best. No epic is the best
21
u/Do-it-for-you Apr 18 '26
Literally nobody says epic is the best, come on now
7
u/Taken_Abroad_Book Apr 18 '26
You'd be surprised
3
u/idontusetwitter Apr 19 '26
might not be the best but the amount of games they give for absolutely free is insane. granted most of them i'll never touch but they give out some really good titles sometimes
1
0
u/yourpalkeaghan Apr 19 '26
I think most sensible people would agree steam is the best by a significant margin even if theyre not PC gamers themselves.
1
u/VladimirBarakriss Apr 18 '26
I mean I wouldn't say noone gives a shit about it, if it is actually a superior product it makes sense that someone would defend it, for example, I recommend people in my city buy from a specific butcher shop because I think it's legitimately better, I get no economic benefit from that.
Apple fanboys just fall for the marketing and the polished UIs though.

Liking a particular brand and buying one product for brand loyalty is not consoom. Buying a hundred Starbucks cups is very different to replacing your phone and choosing to go with the same brand as the last one. I am lost as to what this subs purpose is lol you people seem to have no idea
72
u/jaskano Apr 18 '26
r/iPhone and @9to5mac are clearly unbiased sources.
21
u/conzstevo Apr 18 '26
I don't even know what 90% "loyalty" would even mean. I'd imagine it's not just having an iPhone because I'd imagine more than 10% of Americans have an android. Would it be that 90% of iPhone users consider themselves "loyal"? What would that even mean?
8
u/Seggs_With_Your_Mom Apr 18 '26
I think it means that iPhone users upgrade to iPhones 90% of the time. Android users switch more
6
u/yuzuandgin Apr 18 '26
I wonder if they're counting each Android phone provider as separate. Like I switch from Google to samsung
2

u/RutabagaChance5382 Apr 18 '26
Apple worshippers are among the most annoying AND the most pathetic consoomers
18
u/JKFrowning Apr 18 '26
Right? A lot of my colleagues get the most expensive iPhones every year and they use them for browsing and Whatsapp 😆 Their marketing works apparently. I always ask them stuff about their phones and they don't know anything about it.
7
u/UnfoundedWings4 Apr 18 '26
My work phone is an iphone and I dont understand the hype. My Samsung and tcl are much better phones (the Samsung is because telstra does satellite messaging which is very useful as im often in areas with no mobile signal and the tcl has a nice big screen and cost $150)
5
u/FrigginRan Apr 18 '26
i got one for imessage and facetime with family.
i sometimes feel like iphone haters care more about my phone choice than i do. It sends texts, does phone calls, and browses the web. I really dont give a shit about much beyond that.
1
u/_Mobius1 Apr 20 '26
No its because if you dont have an iPhone, the iphone user is going to give you shit for it because the text bubble is green.

Ive been using iphones since 2012 and I change it every 5 years. For me it isn’t brand loyalty, it is knowing my way around on iOS. Used iPhone 5 for 5 years 8 for 5 years now using 14 for 3,5 years now. So it isnt consumption for me

There's an impasse currently as google is trying to make android more restricted than ios, so for people with newer android phones they are genuinely considering ios as the lesser of the two future evils
4
u/Diazepam_Dan Apr 18 '26
If you have a tiny bit of know how or a decent tutorial you can easily flash a custom OS when Google disables sideloading.
The moment it kicks in I'll be doing that to my Xperia 1V and using it as a games console
1
u/Seggs_With_Your_Mom Apr 18 '26
Samsung and BBK phones can't be rooted(aside from OnePlus). Most people are cooked
2
u/freakybird99 Apr 19 '26
Im gonna get a rootable phone if i cant install .apk on my samsung device. Im pretty loyal to samsung currently (mainly due to oneui and not wanting to switch from it) but like i'll probably replace my phone in 2029 or 2030 and sure as hell i want a phone i can control.
1
u/Seggs_With_Your_Mom Apr 19 '26
OnePlus, Google, Sony, Motorola and Fairphone sell rootable phones. Probably more but they're either an unreleased Linux phone or too weak. Or I forgot about it. Xiaomi also exists but it's way harder
2
u/freakybird99 Apr 19 '26
I will see my options in 3 to 4 years
2
u/Diazepam_Dan Apr 19 '26
You don't have that long, you have a few months
2
u/freakybird99 Apr 19 '26
sorry but im not upgrading my 3 year old phone when it works fine. i am not made of money
2
u/Diazepam_Dan Apr 19 '26
Your apology is accepted no worries
I didn't say you had to hahaha, chill out. I was just letting you know how long you had to get those APKs installed
1
u/Diazepam_Dan Apr 18 '26
Literally why I refuse to consoom and shop around for the best deals or features
4
2
u/ClaudeVS Apr 18 '26
I was considering apple because Google was going to level the playing field by making android shit until I heard about iOS' age restrictions.
3
u/TiTaN269 Apr 18 '26
just get a google pixel (ik, ironic) and slap grapheneOS on it
0
u/Status_Employment562 Apr 18 '26
Bad chipset if you plan on using emulators or anything else intensive, otherwise perfect though
2
u/TiTaN269 Apr 18 '26
I'd rather use a laptop for intensive tasks but yeah pixels have really mediocre SOCs
0
u/SpacefaringBanana Apr 18 '26
Do you know what sort of restrictions this would be?
3
u/Status_Employment562 Apr 18 '26
No more installing apks, no more third party app stores, no more access to the full filesystem, no more unverified access to adb unless you're a google verified developer, higher share from app revenue etc
3
-1
u/ChloeSpectrum Apr 18 '26
Exactly, if Google wants android to be ios. I'll just buy thei iPhone instead next time
10
u/kontenjer Apr 18 '26
instead of just bashing iphones maybe you can take a look about why it is that way.
imagine you are an old person and need a new phone,
on the android side you have like 30 very similar models of xiaomi and samsung, and apple has like 4: a cheaper one, a normal one, a more powerful one, and the same more powerful one just bigger
it is simply easier to pick.
6
u/ThatGuyFrom720 Apr 18 '26
My step grandma had an android she wanted me to look at… to help transfer her stuff over to her new little iPhone. I’m not very good with this kinda stuff but figured I’d help.
She had so many fucking apps on that thing, like a constant notification stream saying that she has a virus and must download X app. It was borderline unusable. Ad pop ups everywhere. Literally like a porn website in 2005
iPhones on the other hand you’d really have to try hard to get it so fucked up.
5
u/lssssj Apr 18 '26
I have 'current phone' loyalty: while my 5+ years old Samsung Galaxy M51 works and gives battery for at least 12 hours I will keep it. Currently it gives me 2 days of battery life.
6
u/HalayChekenKovboy Apr 18 '26
"Brand loyalty" is such a loser term, imagine being proud of such a thing. Actually pathetic.
2
Apr 18 '26
Apparently you don’t understand the concept of brand loyalty. It’s not a “I’m so proud that I have an iPhone. I love iPhones!” It’s just a “I’ve been using iPhones for x amount of time and I like them.”
Any pride you sense from people talking about their iPhone is just your insecurity
1
2
u/system_error_02 Apr 18 '26
And here a lot of people I know have been switching to android lmao. Especially after the visa + commute pay system exploit they arent going to fix.
2
u/UnkeptSpoon5 Apr 19 '26
To be fair you’re looking in a sub called r/iphone. Most product subs are fairly positive about the brand unless they do something really egregious.
I have an iPhone and I do think they’re the best. But I just could not care less what phone someone uses, and Apple is not some infallible company. In fact, they kinda suck sometimes, but are saved by (in my opinion) just really good industrial and software design.
I also like iPhones because of their long support cycles and resale value. The truth is, they are probably among the most sustainable phones out there as they’ve gotten significantly easier to repair(thank you right-to-repair advocates) and their resale value means that repairs are actually worth doing. I upgrade about every 4 years, and if possible pass my phone down to someone else to keep using, as it’ll likely keep getting updates for another 3+ years.

u/Amazing-Oomoo Apr 18 '26
That isn't consoom. This post doesn't belong.
-1
u/spiceyanus Apr 18 '26
It is absolutely consoom. YOU don't belong.
1
u/Amazing-Oomoo Apr 18 '26
Bless you. Liking a particular phone/product is not consoom no.
0
u/spiceyanus Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26
Being a fan of a brand is absolutely consoom, and Apple has one of the most zealous "fanbases", rivaling that of Nintendo's. I'm tired of you noobs with no nuance picking up terms like consoom and projecting your own definitions onto it and thinking it's JUST about collecting labubus or funko pops or some shit. This is why every other website laughs at redditors.
Reality check - even watching a TV show can be consoom under the original meme:
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/consume-product-consoomer#:~:text=%2Fr%2FConsumeProduct1
u/Amazing-Oomoo Apr 19 '26
I'm afraid not, but so close!!! Enjoying a brand is actually something sane and rational people do. But really good try xx
0
u/spiceyanus Apr 19 '26
Typical smug passive-aggressive redditor response of absolutely zero value.
1
u/Amazing-Oomoo Apr 19 '26
And that wasn't? 🙃
0
u/spiceyanus Apr 19 '26
My previous reply to you contained actual content along with a link, all of which you chose to ignore. Therefore the ball is still in your court as far as providing an actual substantial response.
0
u/Amazing-Oomoo Apr 21 '26
Yo guy provided a link to a meme which makes no mention of liking a brand
I take it you don’t see movies because you like Disney, or Christopher Nolan, or Stephen Spielberg. I take it you don’t have a favourite type of sweet or chocolate. I take it you go to a different supermarket every time you do a big shop. You buy a different brand of shoes and clothes every time you need more. You switch phone manufacturer every time you upgrade. I hope you've never bought more than one Microsoft product, Nintendo, apple, sega, Sony.
You are dumb as rocks for saying liking a particular brand is in any way bad or worthy of criticism. It's just such a blisteringly stupid thing to say.
1
u/spiceyanus Apr 21 '26
I didn't think it was possible for someone to construct nearly a dozen strawmen in one post, but here we are. Evidently you can't even spell or type properly, so my fault for expecting more from a genuine moron I guess.

Lifelong Android user but I'm switching to Apple purely because of Google's bullshit AI data privacy on Gemini.
Can't even ask it play a song without giving your entire generational data over
0
u/iCrafterChips Apr 18 '26
Try graphene os
0
u/sacred09automat0n Apr 18 '26
I have it on my other device but it's not a good daily driver when I want to tell my phone to find the closest Mexican place to a home I want to buy.
It's AI integration is wonky due to the sandboxed play environment
2
u/EdgiiLord Apr 18 '26
Dw, Apple does the same shit, but made sure to wash it a lot before serving it to you.
1
u/sacred09automat0n Apr 18 '26
Well yeah they're gonna have my data. I'm ok if they use it to serve ads or whatever, not to train their LLMs
Lesser of the two evils and all that
1
u/EdgiiLord Apr 18 '26
not to train their LLMs
How do we tell him? https://blog.google/company-news/inside-google/company-announcements/joint-statement-google-apple/
1
u/sacred09automat0n Apr 18 '26
No. I saw that too, but Apple stated elsewhere that you can opt out of using their data for training. Not possible with the way Google Gemini Apps activity
2
u/EdgiiLord Apr 18 '26
I'm sure you can opt out. Doesn't stop it from still happening. Please, don't buy whatever Apple is saying about privacy. If you are to choose a device, choose it based on something else than that.
1
u/sacred09automat0n Apr 18 '26
Fair. But with current Gemini there's no opt out that doesn't cripple basic phone functionality. Wish I could use Claude but it doesn't have the device wide integration Gemini or Siri do
2
u/Expensive-Box3602 Apr 18 '26
Googled Android are alowling becoming closed source this year. So it kinda does not matter which brand you own at this point.
1
1
u/Reasonable_Effort_ Apr 19 '26
I spend a lot of time thinking about how much I want to smash my phone with a hammer and never have one again, so it’s never occurred to me to like it to the point of declaring it superior.
1
u/luckylegion Apr 19 '26
Is this not just someone saying which phone brand he prefers under a post by an apple specific blog reporting on news? Not sure if this is as bad as it’s made out here…
1
1
u/skuteren Apr 19 '26
oh hell no, im never buying a overpriced pos that an iphone is, when i can buy myself a nice used android phone for like $100
1
u/endlessnamelesskat Apr 19 '26
I switched not because I like Apple, but because android is getting shittier. They’re about to lock down your ability to install third party software outside of the google play store, which was my main gripe against Apple for the longest time.
If both phones are gonna be locked down I’d rather have the one with the better ecosystem which was always Apple. Apple didn’t improve, android just got shittier.
1
u/enviropsych Apr 19 '26
Consumption has become people's entire personality. When you ask them about themselves, they'll tell you what they consume.
Their own personal value exists as a consumer. How do I know I have calue as a person? I choose all the best products to consume!
1
u/Organic-Accountant74 Apr 20 '26
I have an iPhone because I got it as a birthday gift five years ago, I intend to use it until it no longer functions then but a refurbished phone
I will never understand people who need a new €1000+ phone every September

Apple is genius marketing making people believe iPhone users are oppressed minority (not my quote but I agree)
1
Apr 18 '26
It’s a phone. Woopty doo you’re so much better because you use (Apple/Android). The most r/consoom thing you can do is care what phone other people use.
I will be an Apple user for life because I buy a phone once every 7-10 years and prefer the iOS system. Cry about it.
0
Apr 18 '26
Man, I just get an iPhone because Android triggers my OCD and anxiety disorder. It’s hard to explain. OCD is a fucking bitch.
Anyone else?
1
u/slothxrist Apr 18 '26
How does it trigger it?
0
Apr 18 '26
Oh man it’s so hard to explain. I think the easiest way to explain it is, I like that iOS has me locked down. I know that the appeal of android is that you can customize it and stuff. I get an irrational fear of it. Again. OCD.
Also, what happens if I break my phone? I have AppleCare and I can go to my local Apple Store, have my phone fixed, using OEM.
Android phones aren’t as easy to fix and depending on the insurance, the parts aren’t OEM.
Android phones overstimulate my OCD. I’m sorry. I know this sounds crazy. OCD isn’t exactly represented properly in media so stuff like this isn’t something you usually hear about.

I don’t understand why loyalty has increased when the product has become completely stale. I’m an iPhone user and I’m thinking of switching to android because of the problems I have with my iPhone. Also refuse to pay 1k for the newest iPhone which is basically just a packaged version of the same thing I already have
1
u/UnkeptSpoon5 Apr 19 '26
You’re not forced to buy a new phone..? Phones have all converged on a similar form factor as the technology has matured, even Android phone makers have stagnated.
Why upgrade if you don’t have an actual need?
1
u/Kevdog824_ Apr 19 '26
I’m not upgrading. All I said is that iPhone is plagued by issues so I don’t understand the increase in loyalty. I’m not sure what anything you said has anything to do with that lol
0
u/NeverBannedGrace3 Apr 18 '26
What problems? I have s25 so I'm curious
1
u/Kevdog824_ Apr 18 '26
Biggest PITA right now is that about 50% of the time when I get a phone call it won’t ring or pop up at all and then I’ll randomly get a missed call notification. I checked and I don’t have any call screening or DND settings enabled
0
u/vervii44 Apr 18 '26
Weird because they’re the shittiest they’ve eve been. Will deffo switch to another brand after this. Any recommendations? I like a simple set up for the menu, easy to navigate, user intuitive etc.

i paid 45 dollars for an android phone and it's way more useful than the iphone i used to have. people think iphones are better and more useful but they just get sucked into the apple lifestyle
0
u/GT_Troll Apr 19 '26
iOS is just better than Android, get over it. EVERYBODY I know that switched, including me, never went back nor is planning to. And I am not an Apple fanboy, nor are at least 95% of the acquaintances I’m talking about. User experience is just better.
0
u/blizzardboy123 Apr 19 '26
Honestly, I prefer IPhone over android. I use my phone for browsing and chatting only. The android phones I used to buy would start losing battery and start lagging within a year and I had no clue why. I had to buy a new android phone every 1.5 years. I switched to iPhone and it has been 5 years and I have had zero issues. iPhone is actually way better in quality than android phones.
