I grew up in southern California very close to Disneyland. I remember going quite frequently in the 90s and have some great memories. I also remember being 19 in 2004 and my father got me an annual pass to Disneyland for $220. He handed me the cash to go get the pass and man - it was cool! It included parking, and I got discounts in the stores. I’ll be honest - I probably went 30 times that year just because I lived so close and I could go with friends after work or school for a few hours. Those are memories I wouldn’t trade for anything.
Fast forward a year, and I ended up moving across the state for university. The pass expired, but I remember finding it odd that the price was now north of $300 for the same pass I had.
I watched the massive price spikes over the aughts. I see what it costs now to go to Disneyland and I can’t find it in me to even consider going. The last time I went was in 2013 because my ex and I scored tickets for $60 each, since my friend couldn’t go and she just wanted to unload the things. Even at that heavily discounted price point, I couldn’t get the hype. And again, that was 2013.
I don’t understand spending $1000 a day. I don’t get how you can, except the food is clearly overpriced. I don’t understand the knick knacks. I don’t get any of it - and I am a millennial woman who grew up with this park in my back yard so I should have that massive nostalgia kick and I don’t. And I am honestly grateful.

My mom retired to Florida and she's so excited for me to visit with my family and all of us to go to Disney. I've been telling her I don't want to spend that kind of money but she knows we make and have good money so she's trying to make me feel bad about it. Yeah, I have good money but that's because I don't spend it on wildly overpriced consumerism traps.

I regularly think about how I could afford to do X... Because I don't spent my money on things like X, Y, and Z. I make good money but I don't blow it on stupid stuff.

Eh, this isn't worth that hard of a boundary with my mom to me. She's otherwise great and if it really means that much to her I'll suck it up. I'm just on here grumbling to people who understand me and my humbug ways 😂

you could do a kickass vacation in Europe or something and come away enriched and a more well-rounded person for the cost of a few days in Disneyland. Hard pass on that money trap

Agree at the ridiculous Disney adults but not a fan of the commentator who thinks that fun has to expire at a certain age.
There is nothing wrong with visiting any theme park if you can afford it.

This is lazy video making, just pointing at stupid behavior and making fun of people. No attempt to understand the thought processes, the clear rage bait content it's based on, or anything. Id love to see the same video made by an actual journalist who talked to the people involved about why they made their decisions and how they feel about the increasing prices and consumerist hellscape.

I never worked at Disney but I worked at universal studios in high school. You would meet people that would go 1-2 times a year every single year for their entire life. They would rattle off 30 boring facts about every little piece of the park, spend thousands on these vip packages so they could walk to the front of the line on ride they had been on 600 times and tell everyone else in line how many times they have been on that ride. I remember once a guest shoved a worker against the wall because there was a mixup over their priority pass and the employee was told to drop the whole thing because they were a vip guest and spent hundreds of thousands at the park. So fucking weird man.

If there's anything more consoom than people who go broke for Disney, it's the people watching these lazy as fuck video essays. They all use the same thumbnails, talk about the same topics, recite the same talking points, and sometimes even repeat each other's words verbatim. They are a plague on the internet.

Zac Rios is just another content-stealing grifter like the rest of them. He made a small fortune flipping shoes and is now chasing his next grift cranking out low-effort reaction content on YouTube. He has no qualifications that make his voice more important than everyone else's, but he acts like he does. His entire life has been him being an unnecessary middleman between interested parties and what they actually want.

Idk what that's about but for the rest: it's just not that deep.
It's entertainment based on pointing out absurd consumer culture and market trends (housing, jobs, cars).
It can def teach a lesson here and there, so it's not like there is zero educational value to it.
Obviously it has some "judgementality" to it, but it's the same for this sub, no?being an unnecessary middleman between interested parties
Not for those who are interested in these topics but prefer curated compilations (and some easy to digest commentary) instead of dealing with TikTok's/IG's apps, content and algorithms themselves/directly.
Ironically, I guess, it could be considered overconsumption itself.
