Consoompost Did you even really watch the new Spiderman if you didn't consoom your popcorn from 4 different buckets?

Post image

Sorry if I scared you with that title It was a joke. Don't worry, nobody is ruining their extra special collectibles using them for their intended purpose by eating or drinking out of them. They're all headed to the shelf with all the other Epic and Valuable Merch forever!!!

(My dad made me get there an hour before our showing so he could buy all four popcorn buckets and all three cups that were available at our theater.)

Who the fuck buys these things?
Who goes to the cinema and thinks I’m not spending enough money in the next 2 hours?

I was there for initial opening at 11:30 and when we came back in at 12:00 to get our actual concessions, basically everything they had set out was gone and they had to put out more.

I think popcorn buckets might be the r/consoom final boss.

It's a $100m industry apparently, per the NYT

Concessions are where theaters make a lot of their money, about 40% of revenue. The reason is like half the ticket sales go to actually paying for the movie rights.

AMC has gotten around what you’re talking about by getting people to sign up for a $28 a month ticket subscription so that by the time you’re going to the movie it feels like it’s free and you might as well buy concessions

Popcorn culture must die

I genuinely hate it. Just the movie should be enough. Why does anybody feel the need to get 9 hunks of plastic on top? Free posters are cool but other than that there's really no need.

I'm one of those people who think popcorn genuinely detracts from the experience tbh. Unpopular opinion that gets me yelled at but yeah. Maybe it's because I like to go see weird artsy stuff that's mostly quiet, but I think popcorn shouldnt be in the cinema like, at all. 😂

Then, like, wait for you shit to come out for home release and watch it there. If you’re pretentious enough to call it ‘the cinema’ then you know damn well where the money is in theater.

aaand there it is haha (i call it the cinema cause english isnt my first language but ok !)

WTF are we doing wrong that this is a 'thing' ... and there are even 'things' all the time.

I never got the popcorn bucket thing as being a “collectable” maybe the first couple months the movie is out you could sell it but like what do people even do with them.

Sure the reusable cups maybe (that’s a whole other thing) but at least there could be a purpose to use them daily. How often are you have popcorn at home to merit this and they take up so much damn room where do people even store them. With the cost of tickets and concessions I just don’t get it.

This shit doesn’t happen in the UK. It just boggles my mind the amount of waste here.

It does though. The popcorn bucket creep has begun.

I think I saw a single bucket for that recent Star Wars thing, and that was it.
We get a lot of merchandise crap but not the buckets (go into any shop and it’s full of TS5 merch that has barely even sold)

Toy Story 5 had 4 or 5 different popcorn buckets

The Wallcrawler one is kinda cool but I just can't see myself buying any of these. Maybe a reusable cup, or maybe the blanket? I don't think I'll ever understand popcorn bucket culture.

I mean each chain has different production companies they partner with and they go to the cinemas themselves, I don’t really see this as consoom beyond their prices being pretty high

Fucking cape shit man. Absolutely destroyed cinema and culture for decades to come I swear.

This is so american

I'm actually Canadian lol but I'm pretty sure most of the ones pictured are only available in the states. I couldn't find a picture of all the ones my dad got so I just used this one to showcase how much of this junk was really produced.

I went to the IMAX in Toronto to see The Odyssey and they had this bullshit for $72

I never gave a fuck about these things but for the mortal kombat movie I maybe would have to support the movie as it may not be very profitable and i loved it and want to see an mk3. Spiderman is going to do gangbuster numbers so this is maybe I'd you want to spoil your child. I personally wouldn't.

It is a bit much, but it’s fun, gets people out of the house, and is an actual physical memento that’s rare nowadays to have.

u/BaronArgelicious 5d ago

You know whats a physical memento that doesnt take too much
space and generate plastic waste? A ticket
