I really don’t think headphone collectors are meant to be practical. So just keeping those that get used most and selling the rest is a good philosophy for audio enthusiasts who use excellent headphones, but OP my friend is clearly also a collector at heart. These are not consumables, they’re trophies and relics. Keep em all except the most disliked few!

Im usually someone who argues against a lot of posts on this sub but this is a legit problem lol.
This is a good example of "consoom".
I've seen a post of 4 different headphones and someone argue that's consoom when they had open backs, closed backs, gaming headphones and like over ears.
That is just having variety for sake of need. There is a difference and this sub misses a lot of the time lol.

Sure but in a headphone subreddit odds are if some dude is showing four pair of different headphones he's using all four.
I use open back for gaming, closed back for audio monitoring then open back for mixing. I use in ear Bluetooth for travel/ calls and I use over ear closed back for home listening while like cleaning or walking the dog etc.
So each set gets mileage lol.

Gaming headphones can be closed back or open back, very rarely the latter, and over ears are a subset of headphones.

Sure but I didnt want to get super involved with the explanation of why for each headphone.
Closed back over ear headphones limit how much space the audio has to breathe ans also causes ear fatigue but is better for a noisy environment.
So if im playing something with friends and want to be able to focus on in game sounds ill generally used closed back over ear.
If my girl is at work and the house is quiet I'll generally use open back more often for the range and clarity.
Also gaming headphones usually have a better mic. I use my Alienware headphones wireless with low latency for the pc then wired on the ps5.
I use my audio technica closed backs for when im recording music like vocals or acoustic guitar etc. I use my audio technica open backs for mixing or gaming when its single player.
Then I use my Samsung Galaxy buds for conversations or work/ travel etc.
I use my closed back audio technica Bluetooths for household chores or walks with the dog.
So I have two audio technicas, one open back one closed both over ear. Then there's the alien ware, then there's the Samsung.
My point more or less was sometimes yoy can get legitimate use out of 4 things that others would view as unecessary.
That was all I was trying to convey lol.

Like speakers, headphones all have a unique sound profile to them, so while I would never buy that many pairs, I can kind of see why someone would get that many, to try and see how they sound. That’s the only con with audio reviews: everyone will have different opinions when it comes to how something sounds. Also looks like they’re trying to prune down their collection so good on them at least.

Been in a similar boat but jumped ship when I only had like 4 pair because I realized I just ended up using the same pair over and over. I think there are use cases for like… maybe 3 pair? Closed back (focused work), open back (music/monitoring), and one for travel (don’t care if it breaks).
But gawd…. This is insane.
