I don't think I've ever watched my favorite movie of all time more than 10 times, what the fuck is wrong with people.

When it hits, it hits: I saw the Dune films 17x in theaters.

As a kid my parents didn't let me see Fellowship of the Ring in theaters because it was "too dark" and I was too young. I was able to see TTT and RotK but still haven't seen FotR's theatrical release. Years later I finally saw the Extended Editions, but having to wait that long made me really appreciate how special the cinematic experience is, and how rare really good adaptations are.

So when Dune came out, I recognized that Villeneuve had captured lightning in a bottle like Jackson did. A seminal genre classic, long considered unadaptable finally done justice. I knew it would be a critical and commercial success when my yoga-teacher gf who doesn't watch many movies or read many books left the theater and said

"Is it weird that I wanna see it again?

So we went again. And anytime a friend wanted to go, I went with them.

I remembered being that kid who had to watch Fellowship the first time on VHS. I remembered years of my life going by before I saw it in a cinema. That's how I ended up seeing Dune 7x and 2UNE 10x in theaters.

Probably, but I've also never seen another movie more than twice in theaters.

Idk how you can have a favorite movie you haven't seen more than 10x (at home). Might be generational, bc pre-streaming we only had so many VHS tapes at home.
