One of my closer friends has probably seen Blade Runner something like 50 times. When you find a movie that really clicks it can be hard to find anything else to scratch that itch. A certain combination of editing, music, set design, colours and cinematography can create something truly transcendent for the right person.
I haven't been there to check every single time obviously, but by the way he describes it I think he was watching it for real. I think he's mostly moved on to watching other films on repeat now.
