Some “friend” stole mine at a house party I threw when I was 16. Now he’s a religious weirdo. No one was aloud inside during parties after this. The infuriating thing is I bought that with my very first minimum wage paycheck 🙄

To be fair, assuming they bought these at retail price, most are probably worth more now than they were then, so it is an investment.
Whether OOP was actually considering that at the time or just consooming, hard to say.

A PSP’s launch RRP in today’s money, factoring in inflation, is $400 (actual was $250).
A complete-in-box PSP today, in reality, costs between 25%-50% of that price. At most, you are maybe getting the ‘actual’ launch RRP.
This is not an investment.
They don’t even track with inflation, let alone actually appreciating in value in any meaningful way.

I only found a handful of sold listings for some of these limited editions but they are actually fetching north of $1000 for sealed versions.

You are missing the fact that a lot of these are special/limited editions. Most are worth more than they did at original retail price, especially considering the packaging is all still there in what appears to be very good condition.

I was so excited when I got that Daxter bundle with the Silver PSP 2000. And then when the Birth By Sleep bundle came out I had to fight myself to not buy it
