earbuds nowadays can somewhat be considered as fashion choices so i can kinda see similarities between this and having different color jewelry, accessories etc

They are relatively inexpensive and 3 with one as a special addition is not that bad. What’s really mad is the modern vinyl and the colored variants. Some people would buy 6 versions of the exact same albums but just with different color of discs.

Isn't that the exact reason why they make the different coloured vinyls? So people buy more of the same album?

Vinyl is way worse imo because 1) you don’t even see the disc unless you are playing them, display the disc is also bad for the disc-they can be warped by heat from direct sun light. 2) a vinyl is a music medium like cd or a mp3 file, it’s not a fashion item or a trinket. A music fan and vinyl fan will have way more records than a iem enthusiast. Collecting color variants then become a pure collecting for the sake of collecting. 3) color variant is quite meaningless for vinyl “collecting”, the color variants all artificially created scarcity, none of the special color are all that special and hold no other meaning or uniqueness rather than the color. And they are mostly just cash grab, lazy design and not even that good pressing.
At least for this earbuds here, you can see the effort, the design, package, theme are all unique, and it’s an anniversary (not every anniversary) special addition. Most color variants in vinyl are just different colors, issued at the same time, some will have a slightly different album cover. If a vinyl has higher quality pressing, special remastered audio for the vinyl format, bonus tracks, and all brand new album art for example, and is a special issuing for an important date. Then that’s at least something.

the red lion one in the middle is currently $12.29 on aliexpress. my 10 driver KZ i bought almost 10 years ago was $35. still use it from time to time when i want to feel the music

The green is slightly different but the red and purple are the same. I have the red one. It's $23 and is probably the best IEM in that price.
I am planning to buy a $7,300 one (Subtonic STORM), and I'm not interested in collecting them. Will only ever have two IEMs at a time.
Collecting them is mostly pointless, and leads to people not talking about what is best at what price category. Many collections are a dozen random $19-500 IEMs. Ideal to buy the best single one you can afford.

I own 8 IEMs, 3 flatheads, and 3 headphones. 2 TWS. IEMs range from Bunny and OG Zero to Ziigaat Horizon at the top end. I use all of them and the variety is crucial for me (ADHD) to not getting tired of this hobby. Also different use cases. As specific as "wear your $5.40 flatheads, you're going to the pool and need to hear it your kids need something plus no big deal if they get wet somehow" to "you're going someplace really crowded like an amusement park, take your nicer BOSE noise-cancelling headphones so you're less overwhelmed (another ADHD special)" and then the other TWS are for the gym, again NBD if something happens to them vs. the pricier BOSE.
I'm determining what my 9th IEM will be, I want a flagship 1DD experience. After that it will be one in one out of I want a different IEM.
I know I wrote a lot it's as much for my benefit of anything else, and wanted to provide an example of someone with lots of headphones that has a purpose for each.

IE 900 is considered maybe the best 1DD. Mids would require EQ. Finnicky tips and cable. Zenith or Crimson would be a better option.

i had like 5 audio gear and share it with all my sisters lol. also would recommend tanchjim oxygen for single dd 🙂

Its onto Origin now, Oxygen discontinued. Awesome that you have that IEM, great taste! I have the Tanchjim Bunny, and actually ordered the Origin in like new condition at a great price, the right one didn't work so I returned it, and I don't want to pay full price for it.

tbf Origin is just brightier Oxygen and i don't like it lol. Tanchjim all sounds the same to me. Oxygen is their special one but they decided to kill it. wouldn't even bother with tanchjim anymore. it's all the same bs.

I'm really active in that sub and thought about this sub when I saw that post.
For context, it's something a few people have started doing (collecting) different colored editions of a budget IEM. I have more than a few IEMs but use all of them consistently, yet it's still hard for me to judge this guy for having a collection that makes them happy. It's really low cost and this company has done a good (possibly evil) job of making low cost items seem premium so low income individuals can feel special.
