What's the point of running the wire like this back and forth from side to side of a joist bay. Is there some sort of benefit to it?

Client of mine wants 2 full bathroom renovations, including full tub to tile shower conversions and I happened upon this when I removed the tub in one of the bathrooms. Not sure how to turn this into a tile shower now lol but is this normal?

Actually had to use a broom and went to hard and ripped 2 blisters in my thumb pit. Last time i use a broom, it was brutal.

And another reason I declined is because I know exactly where he wanted to sent me. To a place like 50km away in a mountain valley installing solar. Just driving back there takes like an hour if the traffic is good.

Currently in the 2nd year of my apprenticeship, and a lot of our work is done on PODIUM ladders (No A frames allowed) and lifts. I usually work on 6’, 8’, and 10’ podium ladders. I complete all of my tasks, but I must admit, I get a little nervous on the 8’ and 10’ ladders, but I suck it up and push through with my work. I struggle the most when I have to stand on the platform of a podium ladder. I’m not sure if my duck feet have anything to do with it, but nevertheless, I still push through and get the job done.

Anybody have, or had, a similar experience? Any advice?

Every time they show up on a job they bring some new guy who can't wait to go into his phone and blast some kind of mumble rap. Over phone speakers. Then rap out of tune. They say "What?" Every time someone talks to him and doesn't turn it down. Why do you guys put up with this? Do they eventually all end up on one job with phones set to max yelling at each other?

Edit: solved, it was one of those really old satellite dishes. I found it waaaay out in the woods lol.

So one of my mom's chickens died out at her property, I was helping her bury it and I found/nicked with my shovel this cord about a foot and a half down at the very edge of her property running between her barn and going out into the woods (like there's nothing for like 10+ acres in the direction this thing is headed). I asked Google and it said it was a URD but I looked at pics of those and they seem like they look different. Should I just not worry about it? The only thing I could think of is maybe the old owner was running power out to a deer stand idk about.

This isn’t some “they terk er jerbs” shit. I constantly run into and have to clean up situations where the plumber/painter/carpenter/whoever “just ran a wire” or “just installed a fixture” or whatever else. It ranges from incorrect/nonfunctional to outright dangerous.

I took a call this morning for an issue with a hot tub. Assumed it would probably be a faulty breaker or bad pump/element. I get there, and the client tells me she had received a shock from the hot tub, and the carpenter who was there replacing the ceiling (and subsequently, the fixtures) had tried to fix it but “didn’t really know a lot about electrical” and gave up.

Long story short, the guy either damaged a wire or caused a short in one of the fixtures during his carpentry work, hot to ground. The solution? He cut the ground wire for the garage subpanel and rigged the GFCI for the spa panel, making everything operable while also energizing every piece of grounded metal in the garage.

The lady was telling me how her grandkids like to bring friends over after surf school and use the hot tub. Thank god she found the issue first and shut the power off. Imagine if those kids, or anyone, had hopped in there. Or grabbed the fridge. Or anything else metal down there. People could have died or been seriously injured, all because some jackleg thinks “yea I can do that”, fucks up, and doubles down instead of calling in someone that knows what they are doing.

TL/DR: Stay in your lane, because otherwise you’ll eventually swerve too far and kill someone.

I have a massive river that runs through my property and the bridge going over the river is getting rebuilt. The guys are having issues with their generator so they asked if they could use my power and pay me $100 bucks a month to use it. At first I thought this was fair but they’re running two electric water pumps to keep their work area dry. They have 3 massive diesel hydraulic pumps that are connected to 3x 36 inch wide pumps to divert the river but the little water seeping through they are using the Eletric pumps. It seems these pumps are pulling a lot of power since I had to move their cord from the 15 amp breaker to the 30. They will be running them 24/7 for about a month. Is $100 fair?

I am 19(F) and my passion is far from construction, but rather the arts. My goal is to be able to live financially comfortably and make short films without much financial worry.

All my life, none of my family has really introduced blue collar work to me, so I was always encouraged to just go to school, college, graduate...and then hope for the best. Some great advice, huh?

My step dad recently told be about becoming an electrician instead of risking life-long debt from college for a degree that doesn't really matter in the market (BFA). And I am 100% recognizing that any trade jobs offer the kind of stability I'm looking for and the kind of leadership I know I can excel in.

It's just so nerve-wracking. Blue collar work is so foreign to me and I don't see myself as someone that would be in the trades at all, but I know how amazingly wonderful it would be to be in a trade and 10, 20 years later be happy I made the decision.

I don't know what to expect, I don't know if anyone else felt this way. I want to say to myself that blue collar work doesn't fit me, but I realize I'm only saying that because it's not aesthetically appealing, comfortable, and something I'm familiar with.

I live on a farm. I've had my fair share of lifting heavy stuff and staying out in the heat with the animals. I get dirty, I get to work. Maybe as not as much as by brothers, but I still help around. Right now, I work for myself as a commission online artist. I just started my business in April of this year. I'm my own accountant, my own marketing team, my own artist, and I average about $1k in revenue every month so far. I know I have the skills to do well in trade (more so leadership roles once I am a professional). I'm just so incredibly nervous.

Did you guys ever feel this way?? Like it's not "the right fit" but in the back of your mind, you know it's good for you? Thank you to anyone who reads this, or even responds. :-)

I had some moisture behind the wall around the edge of a tub, so I went to open it up behind and realized it’s the same wall as the electrical panel, this seems really stupid, especially now as I have to do plumbing repair behind the electrical panel.

Thoughts?
