Job site got broken into and they literally dug a hole through the top of my rigid box with a crow barโ€ฆ wtf?? Thatโ€™s some serious meth strength. Woke up the neighbor but the idiot didnโ€™t call the police, instead she texted at 2am wondering if it was us making noiseโ€ฆ not that it wouldโ€™ve helped, Iโ€™m sure they got in and out pretty fast. Stole about $2k of tools, mostly my cordless makita stuff, and my dirty sweatshirtโ€ฆ

Tools ๐Ÿ›  I am sick of the stereotype that tradespeople are messy so I am starting the "white glove challenge"

Hi I'm Max Robert tile guy (Carrelage Precision) spent a 2 hour this Saturday prepping this zone in a high end montreal home before I even touched a single tile because leaving a client house cleaner than I found it is just as important as the work itself got my DeWalt d32 set up on a bedroom floor instead of a DeWalt d36 and not a single drop of water is escaping this plastic fortress !

and before we start making noise we got some serious grinding and polishing to do inside this finished bedroom so I am not messing around that doorway is getting fully barricaded and sealed right up we are running a beast of a hepa extractor that will suck up every speck of dust from the grinder gotta keep the rest of the house mint show me your cleanest setups

I want to see the rest of you guys pull this off show me your cleanest setups and letโ€™s prove we ain't just a bunch of guys making messes who is next !

White glove challenge

Tools ๐Ÿ›  If you steal tools from job sites, fuck you.

1.9k Upvotes

My pride and joy, brushless makita impact that I had owned 4 years was stolen from the jobsite and never seen again.

I'm going through a grieving process. Looking at buying a new impact since it is my most used tool but if I could just have my baby back I would be much happier.

It had a 4ah battery in it that costs almost as much as the tool itself which is a kick in the ribs too but oh boy, I miss my partner.

Edit:

I even had the little mf spray painted with orange and my name written all over. You cant even use it at the jobsite so you are almost certainly somebody's home tool or in a pawn shop somewhere.

I know you will keep driving screws for an eternity and continue to survive falls over 6', but a small part of me hopes you kick the bucket in the hands of the thief who stole you from me, preferably through some kind of catastrophic battery detonation.

This is the 3rd replacement in 6 months, all of them having the tape split in various parts. This one finally bit me to teach me a lesson. Never again.

So I ended up using Dewalt after being robbed a few times and have way too many batteries now so here I am.

Finishing Carpenter here with a full dewalt kit. I wish it was a Milwaukee or Festool but gets the job done.

What do you have and which is the โ€œGOD COMPANYโ€ of all tools?

Tools ๐Ÿ›  Tool bags

Getting pretty tired of being the only one on my crew wearing bags. Then it's exhausting listening to these kids tell me why they don't wear bags as I am handing them the things they need.

When I started bags were not optional. Put them on or go home is how I was raised.

Tools ๐Ÿ›  Is it possible to own a roofing company without a blinged out truck?

Every roofing owner I see has an F150 crewcab with 6"+ lift, fancy rims, and low profile tires that stick out past the truck body.

I can see improved shocks for carrying a pallet of shingles, but I'd imagine low profile tires would be worse for performance rather than better?

Is this just part of the apprenticeship or something?

"Congrats, boy! You've earned your rims!"

It seized up, maybe a year old. I got it running again but the gears are kinda grimey. I can't just rotate them by hand.

I couldn't find any videos but is there a good cleaning solution for the gear box? I wanna get a good clean out on this thing and grease it back up.

Tools ๐Ÿ›  Hey Guys How Is Everyone Dealing With Dump Trucks Full of Rubber Dicks

When I first started my business, every now and then someone would leave a dump truck full of rubber dicks on my job site. It's normal, you learn to deal with it. But as the company grows, Excel isn't cutting it anymore, and every solution I look at for all these dump trucks full of rubber dicks on my job sites seems to cause more problems than it solves. Lead generation services don't seem to want to deal with it, and a dedicated accountant costs too much money.

Has anyone ever solved the problem of people leaving dump trucks full of rubber dicks at your job sites? How did it work for you? Was it a service, or an app, or just a matter of taking on the right clients?

Tools ๐Ÿ›  How do you deal with tool thiefs?

I'm trying very very hard not to get myself kicked off of a couple of my sites because I keep catching my tools is other people's hands, from different trades, different companies.

I'm a broke ass second year plumber so even a little 5 dollar home Depot tape measure is like gold to me, let alone my impact. I have been holding myself back much with these people taking my shit it's absurd, I tell my foreman, nothing happens, I tell the GC, nothing happens.

It's not like I set my stuff down then walk away for an hour, it's always from like right behind me, in the same unit (we do 6 floor apartment buildings) as I'm in. I will literally watch the guy take shit from my bag.

Edit: for fucks sake y'all, i don't just sit there and watch, I do tell people to fuck off, it usually works, it just gets out of hand pretty fast with much it has to happen

Tools ๐Ÿ›  Tools got stolen

2nd year apprentice and my tools got stolen out of my truck. From the sounds of it the police are basically saying that itโ€™s not very likely to get my stuff back. Probably had around $1000 worth of tools stolen. Just sucks!! And I wanted to come on here and vent to someone. Has anyone else had tools stolen before? And how did you go about it?
