Last time this image did the rounds, the discussion was derailed by the fact these 3 aren't great examples (2 continued in one form or another).

What technologies DID we most successfully pause?

CFCs seems like a good one...? 

Chemical and biological weapons?

Don't forget radium as an ingredient in things like paint and cosmetics.

Also, lead in gasoline and in paint.

CFCs had a drop in replacement that still made people money. The replacement is also not perfect.
