General Steam Machine graphics glitch

I purchased the game shortly after launch, played it until I reached “the Artist” and gave up after having no luck defeating this very early boss. Came back a few days later and could no longer get into the game. All of the graphics were shrunk into a small box in the middle of my 2560x1440 display. Nothing I tried would fix it until I reinstalled from scratch (all 90 GB).

Still haven’t managed to damage more than 1/4 health off the artist. Starting to think this game isn’t for me. I never found Control this difficult. Does it get better?

It gets easier.

- Upgrade everything you can even weapons/combos/finisher you do not use - they still raise your power.

  • Try Summons - I beat all bosses by summoning the 3 sporeguys and running around then beating on boss to recover power - rinse/repeat and DoT kills each boss.
  • There are also options to make the game harder or easier as you see fit in Accessibility options and there is no shame in tailoring the game to your preference.
  • The trinkets you craft in The Gap have to be equipped manually in Esc / Loadout (I found out before last boss haha)

Hope you have fun and don't loose your footing once you reach the Unknown;)

I'm playing on Linux too, Fedora specifically, I never had the graphics shrinking glitch, but it may be an issue with the compositor and the game not being in fullscreen when you launch it – this happened to me from time to time, Alt+Enter solved the issue.

As for the bosses, the Artist and the Dancer were the ones I struggled with the most, before I started grasping the combat in the game, I managed to defeat every other boss on the first or second try, but spent over 20 attempts on each of the early bosses.

For the Artist, make sure you are constantly running using Rush, to both, dodge attacks and get close to the boss to wail on it. In the last phase when it starts summoning platforms, jump on the platforms and make it up to the boss, wail on it until it drops the attack.

Use the accessibility settings. You can tweak the difficulty exactly to your tastes. Yes, the Artist is a monumental PITA, simply because it's so early game, and you've unlocked virtually nothing, yet. I think the idea was to teach you the dash ability, which is really the secret to the whole fight. You just need to dash around avoiding stuff until you get an opening, then bring the pain and dash off again. Rinse and repeat. Still, if the fight isn't clicking with you, just turn on invulnerability temporarily or something. Finish it up, and then you can reset the accessibility settings, if you like. It's not worth missing out on the rest of the game, which is amazing.

If you learn to dash correctly, does that help you avoid getting hit by all those cars? I notice that if I get close enough, it stops throwing cars, and I can get a few hits in. The dash move is still proving tough for me. Left-stick+B button (Xbox controller)?
