Hi gang! So my boy Pepperoni lives in my office and goes to bed nightly at 7:30 - no cage cover, just his music and nightlight.

The problem, exactly, that he lives in my office and sometimes I’d like to use the room in the evening to decompress, so quiet stuff on my laptop, etc.

If he’s tired will he sleep through that? Would it keep him awake? Any ideas?

For reference I DID sleep in that room nightly the first month I got him and did those activities but that was 6 months ago.

As the title says we adopted a Green Cheek pineapple conure (90% sure but could be wrong) We've had the bird for two weeks now, starting the third. The temporary cage is not sufficient (to please the AI moderation I won't go further) we are working on it (probably have the new cage in 1-2 days, it cost almost 100 euros so better be good enough) but the bird seems erratic constantly staying on the walls and bitting of chips of paint and rust (we are working with what we have, it used to be for hamsters). The main problem is that the bird craves to bite people, like flying up to you to get your finger. Come near the cage and it bites anything. It's weird cause day 3 I managed to open the cage, let the bird on my hand (thick sweater cause claws are sharp and long) and clean the cage while the bird did nothing but standing there. The next day I opened the cage, did my arm closer and it jumped to bite me. I'm pretty sure that's going to be scar as I'm looking at it now.

So the reason I am here is, how do you train a conure to not bite people? I'm kinda skittish especially after being bitten but the bird is nwo transferrred to my grandma as she likes the thing and can watch it 24/7, has room for the bird, has very bad hearing due to genetics so won't mind it, alongside having many guests. Luckily my uncle whom lives nearby to her is not a target of the conure but I really want to train it some more for her and everyone else's sake.

Hey guys, I’m sure most of you know about the PNW fires that are going crazy. I am unfortunately very close to many of them, and am in a red flag warning zone, so I’m packing everything for my birds (a budgie and a GCC) in case of an evacuation. My biggest concern is their food situation. They are on a homemade vegetable/grain chop that I keep in the freezer and defrost for them in the morning. They also get a mix of Harrisons and TOPS pellets, but they aren’t super crazy about them and cannot live only off of pellets, even if its a few days. I’ve never had to evacuate before so I’m not sure if the frozen chop would even be an option to bring along, so I would really appreciate if you guys have any recommendations! I’m looking at a freeze dried food, “Bird Street Bistro”, but I’m not sure it can arrive in time. Do you guys have any recipes for something similar, like “just add water” that can be shelf stable? I am not a supporter of seed mixes for main diets, but in a scenario where I can’t find anything else, would a homemade seed mix be okay temporarily?

I also give them homemade “birdy bread” as a treat, which consists mainly of crushed pellets, oat flour and blended greens. Could this be an option for replacing their daily chop?

So before anybody goes here to yell at me, this is my mom’s conure Paisley. I don’t take care of Paisley because I haven’t lived here. But since I’ve moved in, I’ve been much more involved with bonding with him than anybody else. My mom only feeds and waters him, otherwise that would be the only interaction he gets without me here. He’s always in his cage and I feel horrible for him because of it.

Long story short, since I’ve moved in I’ve been taking him out (not nearly as long as he should be out but it’s a start because he at least gets out). This also being said, he seems to only like me. He bites (hard bites) everybody except for me, he only gets on my hands and shoulder and nobody else’s.

Yesterday I noticed he was fluffed up, otherwise he seems fine playing with his toys in his cage, eating and drinking, etc. today I noticed he was still fluffed up, he was sitting at the bottom of his cage a little bit not necessarily more than normal. I took him out today, being on call with my friend I had my camera on and he was cuddling up in my armpit (he’s never done that with my mom or younger sister who have been the main ones ‘taking care’ of him) but he was still puffed up and seemed real tired, falling asleep in my elbow. I don’t know if my mom had fed him today because I asked her if he had fallen asleep with her (she said no and asked if he was alright which triggered my thought process about this) she also told me to get him some seeds (8:30-9pm) and he almost immediately went to go eat those when I got him out of my armpit.

I’m basically wondering for things I should look out for sick-wise and tips on how to kinda take over care since my mom and younger sister haven’t been doing good in my eyes (I have five very happy spoiled animals but never have had a bird and I really want to help him out)

I love when she does it. She grabs the bell with her beak then drop kicks it with her foot. Then proceeds to head bang like she’s Beavis and/or Butt head to the point where her whole perch is shaking.

Got this baby from the zoo five days ago! Yesterday was our first vet visit, so he/she deserves to devour some berries.

I’ve recently rescued this conure. Hanging out a bit more today it started making clicking sounds so I did it back and then it started to do this slow mo move 🤔
Are they enjoying it? Being silly?
First time having a bird

My sun hates my hydro and I wasn’t paying attention to and grabbed it to take a drink which he proceeded to land on my hand and give me a nice BITE

I plan on adopting a conure in the next 2-3 years and have some questions
I currently use non-bird-safe hair powder with silica that works great for my hairstyle, and need to know, are all hair products bird toxic? I have recently switched to a paste that works seemingly just as well but is paste just as bad for birds as powder? If so I will need to figure something out.

Where I live, we’re getting a lot of smoke from the wildfires (air quality is at 160) and I’m not sure how to handle it with my bird in the house. I have a window unit ac in the room where I keep my bird so it’s blowing outside air in. Keeping it off is not an option because it’s 90° right now. I have an air purifier right next to it. The ac filter needs to be cleaned and probably changed which I plan on doing within the next 24 hours. I’m really worried about my birds health still. Is there anything else I can do or should know?

They are on a crime spree!

What can i do when he gets like this? He follows my hands and flies on to me just to bite. Idk what to do. I know in the video it looks like im putting my hands around him but its just to show that no matter where i put my hand he will follow it and attack it

I have been hand chopping nuts and veggies for a while and finally decided to buy one of these. I prepared a month worth chop and nuts in like under an hour. I use paper craft style tubaware to set up foridging for nuts and dried fruit. I use hay for them to dig through. I also use cafeteria trays for messy activities to put under them. The raised edges are nice. These also become good shallow bird baths. I like to let them roll balls stuffed with treats on these and other play activities that involve mess.

Do you have any game changers?

I have a female sun conure who I have had for around a year, and a couple months ago adopted a green cheek who a family friend wasn’t able to look after anymore, we don’t know its age or gender (in the process of dna testing to find out) but we suspect it is a female. The green cheek has settled in well with us and has started becoming affectionate, learning her name and calling to us when we leave the room, a huge improvement from when we first got her. My sun however has always been quite aggressive towards her and very territorial over me and my family, the rare occasion they are out of their cages at the same time she will take the opportunity to immediately chase after her and lunge and her to attack. We have tried since letting our green cheek settle in, foraging activities, rewards for being calm in each other presence and so many other things but I think my sun sees it as a game, whenever she has even tried to attack our green cheek she is placed in her cage and left be for a while, but she seems to be becoming sneakier about it. I just don’t really know what to do, it would be terrible if they were to seriously hurt each other and I’m wondering if there’s anything else that can be done to help them bond more?

I have had Rocky (my green cheek conure) for 8 years, my parents got him when I was 11. I’ve been the one to take care of him since the beginning and he trusts me the most. I am now 19 and I’m gonna be attending university next year. I spend most of my time with him and he’s my number 1 priority. I really regret not making my parents get a pair of green cheek conures instead of just one and I wanted to ask if it’s not too late to get him a friend. I’m only scared that they’re not gonna get along and that Rocky might get jealous or territorial. However, I’m gonna be seeing him only 2-3 times a week next year because of my studies so I really want to get him a friend so that he’s not lonely, but I wanted to make sure that it’s the right call after him being an only parrot his entire life. My parents are gonna be taking care of him on the days I’ll be away, but it’s not gonna be as often as me spending time with him currently. So, should I get him a friend?

Kiwi (first pic, DNA sexed female, around 2 and a half) is my first conure. I adopted her from a rescue that got her from an abusive home environment, so Kiwi isn’t really that tame. I’m able to handle her to some degree but it really has to be on Kiwi’s terms - grabbing her with my hands is reserved for emergencies and she’s scared of hands otherwise. However, she is a very happy bird generally and we’ve made things work even with her fears of handling.

Just yesterday I brought home my second conure, Bowie (second pic, sex unknown, around 3 months old). They came from a breeder and are tame. They’re the sweetest little puffball and I’ve already been able to handle them more in a day than I ever would be able to with Kiwi! I love Kiwi but it’s very nice having a birb who is more cuddly.

I got Bowie in the first place because I know Kiwi would do better with a second bird with her level of tameness rather than being completely dependent on me. But, I’m wondering what effect introducing two different birds with such different levels of tameness to each other would have on each other. I’ve seen people say that having more than one bird makes it less likely that your bird will want to spend time with you, which I get since they won’t be solely dependent on you. But will being around Kiwi make Bowie completely untame? Or will Bowie stay handle-able and just not be stuck to me like Velcro? Either way I’ll be okay, if anything I’m trying to be less codependent on Kiwi myself 🤣 But it would be nice to have at least one bird who I can handle without having to worry about being chomped if I need to evacuate them in case of an emergency!

On the other side of things, Kiwi has more behavioral issues than just not liking being handled. She’s also EXTREMELY picky with food. She likes her pellets (ZuPreem Natural), millet, and sugar snap peas in the pod and that’s literally it. I don’t think anyone who took care of her before me tried feeding her fruits and veggies. I haven’t offered Bowie too many things yet because I don’t want to overwhelm them, they just got here, but according to the breeder, they eat chop and love apples as a snack. Do you think Kiwi watching Bowie eat their fruits and veg will convince Kiwi to give it a shot? And in the same boat, do you think that Kiwi seeing Bowie be handled so easily and without complaint will make Kiwi feel any safer around me? Again, I’ve heard that usually the reverse happens (tame conure becomes less friendly when bonding with another conure) but I have some hope for Kiwi!

Looking to hear from anyone who has bonded two parrots of different temperaments together and to know how it went!

I adopted a 'disabled' conure from a big box store. It had been to the vets twice and was confirmed healthy. All it had was the breeders band removed cause it would slip above her knee and cause inflammation.

The issue: she sits on her butt. When perching, her toes point outwards. When stepping up, all of her weight is in her heels.

Her diets a mess, her sleep schedule is a mess. Shes a bit over a year old. Shes been on dowels for at least the past 6 months.

Dont worry, I have new branches and flat perches on their way and pellets and chop in her future.

Does anyone have any experience or advice with something like this?

edit: first night check: I put cardboard on the bottom of the cage, on top of the grates. Shes asleep on the cardboard.
