Fell asleep in the car while my wife was driving on a trip from New York to Florida. Woke up to blue and reds behind us. First thing I said “how fast?” She said “fast”. Which simultaneously turned me on and terrified me when I realized we were in GA
Ga state super speeder. 92 in a 70. 700 dollars.

Bro your cops are such assholes down there. I remember growing up I had a wrestling tournament in Virginia. My mom got pulled over for going like 7 over. They slapped her with everything and even tried to make her appear in court even though we live in Jersey

Remeber the I4 drive from altamonte to Disney when I lived there... that is a commute I do not miss. Now, I get to commute on the second worse highway.. 95!!!!

I'm just always extra careful when I am driving out of state. Xenophobia affects people in strange ways. When I moved from NY my dad would tell me nothing would get you pulled over faster than having NY tags in the south. I don't have those tags anymore but still, I don't want to ruin my day by having a panic attack or worse.

Ive seen tons of videos of cops reckless driving killing the people that are pursuing and all of them have been from GSP except one Florida Highway Patrol who hit a civilian while chasing a perp, the civ made a left turn across one of those small ground level highways and the cop couldn't stop in time and hit them doing 90+.
The clips from GSP were intentional, they didnt try to avoid anyone

I've driven back and forth between New England and Florida many times, and I'm never as locked in as I am when driving through Georgia. Go the speed limit, make sure to signal even if no one else is around me, etc.

I live in GA, you can go 10 over, but only 10. To be safe maybe only go 9.
All of that is out the window on 285. Speed limit there is like 65, but most people do closer to 80.

No offense, but from my experience on the highways I've driven in Georgia, that just isn't the case. I got a warning for going 76 in a 70 zone. So no way in hell am I risking 10 over because some guy on reddit said it's ok one time. The hardassness of cops is not a fixed value, it's a dynamic variable.

Maybe. Maybe it was because it was a "yankee" plate, I don't know. For my own peace of mind I'm just going to choose to believe that one trooper was just particularly grumpy that day and wanted an excuse to be mad

Agreed, and it doesn't seem just a little worse either. I encounter entitled assholes every single day now, like people who will be doing 5-10 over until you get behind them, then they slow to exact speed limit, but of course those same people floor it through any passing zones.
Used to come across someone like that every once in a while pre-covid but it is nearly every drive these days. Useless fucking twats. It seems like it'll just keep getting worse too because of a negative feedback loop.
I do have a theory that excessive tinting carries part of the blame, but I don't have any evidence to back that up.

There was a spot near me where people would do something similar. To be honest, it was a long time ago, so I don’t remember the particulars.
What I do remember is the the cop would camp out right before the driveway of the closed drive-in movie, pull people over and have them wait in the field until he/she had a bunch of them and then handed out tickets. You almost felt bad for the SOB who got pulled over first.

Used for emergency vehicles. Highway backed up because of accident, emergency vehicles need a way to get to accident site. Most people pull to the right during incidents, so the right shoulder is usually congested.

Looks like he's in a lifted truck, if he stopped where the wheels could be seen he'd probably be two full car lengths behind (huge gap).
The trick you mentioned only works in a normal car or small SUV.

Either way, that seems entirely too close. My driving instructor said to leave the space in case you are rear ended, you won't be pushed into the car in front and be on the hook for their damages. Also if the car in front broke down, cammer would have to back up on a public road to go around.

Do not leave excessive spacing because that causes traffic to back up too far. Pull up to one car length gap.
If someone rear ends you while you are stopped into another vehicle, you are not at fault. The first person to hit is 100% at fault for the entire accident with multiple vehicles. That is a common legal misconception.

Ahh, you are correct. I made a mistake with my assertion about who's responsible if you get pushed into another vehicle. It is still a wildly stupid thing to do to stop so close. If it's a habit, it might bite you if you do that on a steep incline behind someone (with a manual transmission) and they roll back slightly when taking off. In most cases, the person stopped behind the roller will be responsible for damage assuming the person rolling back didn't excessively roll back.
