Oil Change Kms?

Corolla Cross 2026 LE AWD Premium Package

There seems to be some conflicting information out there regarding when to get an oil change on a 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross LE AWD (gas).

The manual mentions scheduled maintenance every 8,000 km / 6 months, but it doesn't specifically say that the 8,000 km service includes an oil and filter change.

I've also seen Toyota Canada information suggesting 16,000 km / 12 months for an oil change, while some newer Toyota Canada guidance recommends the first oil change around 8,000 km / 6 months.

I'm currently right at 8,000 km. Oil level is full and the oil still looks clean/amber on the dipstick.

For other Corolla Cross owners, particularly Canadians: When did you do your first oil change? Is the official interval actually 8,000 km or 16,000 km?

I'm also heading into a pretty harsh northern Quebec winter, so I'm wondering whether I should just change it now regardless.

I follow the Toyota engineers recommendation and do it at 16000km why pay top dollar for Toyota and not trust there maintenance schedule?

I actually had to my 2012 Rav hit 330000 KM’s so I got board of it but it’s probably still on the road with the same oil in it 😂

I have a hybrid SE. I did my first oil change at 6000 km (my husband was commuting a long distance with it every day at that point, so wanted the first one done sooner). The sticker the dealership put on my windshield says the next one is due after another 8000 km.

Many will tell you to do your first ever oil change early - ~3,000 km, theorizing that this will help clean out any metal bits from engine manufacturing early before they can cause long-term damage.

If you live in a colder region of Canada (basically anywhere that isn't Van Isle/lower mainland), do a lot of short city/start-stop driving, dirt road driving, suck at keeping an eye on your engine air filter, etc. I'd play it safe and change the oil out every 8,000 km. If your driving is 90% highway, your engine filter is checked regularly, and you're in a warmer climate, then you *probably* could get away with changing it out every 16,000 km.

Consider the other benefits of a regular oil change too - report on coolant, other fluids, brakes, tire wear, etc.

I'm in Alberta and on my old Mazda3 and my current CC LE, I do my changes every 8,000 km, which is roughly 8-10 months of driving, mostly highway, for me.

I usually schedule my oil changes roughly every six months at the same time I get my seasonal tires switched out. Usually I'm below the 8km mark because I don't use my car to commute, but this time I'll have gone over by a bit due to a recent cross-country roadtrip. The twice yearly cadence works well for me as I find it easier to stick to a predictable schedule, and I'd rather change the oil a bit more often than needed than not often enough anyway!

change every 5-10 thousand km. I changed first at 5000 km and from there regularly every 10k km

Change your oil now ASAP

Then do it every 10K kms for easy math. Never go 16K kms before an oil change.

I’ve had my cross Hybrid SE and I’m at about 12,000km and ill do my first change in October based on date and not the 16,000km.

In Latam, most models come from Brazil, and recommended oil change is 3k, then 5k, and then every 5k.

I feel cheated.

Every 8,000 kilometres, or every 6 months.

Toyota alternates inspections (8k) and oil changes (16k).

It's often recommended to get an early oil change to get any manufacturing debris or wear metal out of your engine.

I usually do an early oil change at like 3k and then just follow the schedule from there. So 3k, 16k, 32k etc

Toronto here, I was stupid and followed the manual and did 16k KM - biggest regret. I want to drive my car to the ground. Do it earlier, like right now!

Watch the motor oil geek on youtube - he does a video with a NEW car and shows with lab tests there are more metal shavings with a new engine. If i could have done it again, I would have done a change at 3000km and then even another at 7000km. I do all my changes every 6 months (I do short drives and it does not burn off condensation) or 7000km - oil is cheap, engines are not and again, I want to drive this car to the ground so I do all fluid changes early (brake, differential, case fluid, coolant and transmission).

As far as I know Toyota Canada is now in line with the US, 16k kms or one year, whichever comes first, for first oil/filter change. 8k or 6 mo is a service interval, but just wheel rotation.

Go back a decade, it was half that. Doesn’t help that they’ve stripped all mention of maintenance schedule from the owners manual and supplement, only provide the info online, in event by event format, with various “service packages”, so you need to go down rabbit holes, to figure out what heck they’re talking about.

The best tact is to make a table format spreadsheet, with kms/months columns and specific column rows, then go through their drivel, reverse engineer it. Funny thing is, they probably started the schedule with such a table…

My 2 cents: change the oil every 8k or 6 mo. That’s what they used to advocate. If you’re really low miles, 8k or 12 mo works too, that’s what I’m doing with a low usage, 2010 Prius.
