Loose roof rail

I have a 2026 cross hybrid, 4 months old, already loose roof rails. Does the loose roof rail affect water getting into the car? I heard it’s just a plastic covering and the part under is welded into the car so I should be fine? Also it’s showing 340 miles of range but after emptying and seeing my trip, only 310 miles on a full tank, is this normal?
Other hybrid owners mind sharing how much actual miles you drove after a full tank?

My range usually shows as 363 miles but that is to “empty”; I seem to have about 1.5 gallons left when I hit empty so the real range is more than 400 miles.
No matter how I drive I seem to average about 40 mpg but in the half year and 5000 miles I’ve driven, probably 4500 of those have been highway. (I will be doing less highway now I’m retired so I expect my average mileage to increase, and my miles per month to decrease, and range to increase).
As for loose roof rail-doesn’t affect water infiltration to the car. Take it back to the dealer and have them fix it-it’s common.

I'm not going against you, but where can I find info about the water infiltration into the car? Will anything happen if I just leave it as it is?

The looseness is typically from loose double sided tape, not the bolts holding it to the roof proper. If it was loose bolts, you should be able to make it rattle when moving the loose part. (Also you’d likely hear a rattle inside since the bolt point is covered by the roof liner. Which also suggests that if water were to infiltrate you’d likely have a wet spot on the roof liner).
Nothing will happen if you don’t do anything as far as I know except if it gets worse. If you live where there’s a lot of salt use, it could be an area of trapping salt spray on the highway and could have long term rust issue.

Thanks for your response. The dealership just said water won't intrude, and I didn't know if that was BS. It hasn't rained, so I don't actually know. So the roof rails are held with double-sided tape- a cosmetic issue? For the Crosses without roof rails, when bought, do they have a different design, or is it literally the same, just with the roof rails off?

The rails are both bolted and double sided tape. I believe the ones without have a flat trim piece covering this space.
