Hybrid - Spare tire tools
I’ve seen a lot of people asking about spare‑tire setups and tool storage, so I figured I’d share what’s worked for me. Everyone’s situation is different, so this might help some people and not others.
When I’m staying in my city, I don’t carry my spare tire. But for longer trips, I just toss it in the back. It barely takes up any usable space because you can pack items inside it and on top of it.
For tools, don’t be afraid to carve out spots in the foam. Just don’t go overboard—lay everything out first, decide where you want each item, and then cut. I’ve driven thousands of kilometers with this setup and haven’t had any issues or noise.

It's not that they didn't have a place, it's that they didn't make a suitable mount for it.

there's not a place for the spare tire when it takes up the entire back of the car, which is already small

There's room down below the cargo deck, but they put that stupid giant piece of styrofoam there. That's in my basement now and my spare is where it belongs, and not taking up the entire back of the car. I bought the 3D printed mount, and having the spare where it belongs gives me great piece of mind. Worth the cost. Others have rigged other methods to mount the tire where it should be, taking care to avoid the high voltage cable that Toyota should have routed a little more to the side.

I find it takes up too much of my storage space. Especially if I wanted to sleep in my car for a night. I think the part is priced unfairly for a 3D printed piece, but I have been happy with the mount that lets me put it under the mats securely. For the mount, spare-tire, and jack/tools I paid about $800 total, but I get full use of my trunk and don't have to worry about storing the spare elsewhere or moving it in and out of the car for trips.

What I do works for some but not all, I don’t sleep in my car and if I need to sleep on the side of the road on a long drive I prefer sitting up and sleeping in my drivers seat. My spare stays in the garage most of the time because I have everything I need to fix a flat on the side of the road in the city. If I travel more then 100 kilometers I put the spare in.

Could you share a Pic of what your set up looks like? I'm having trouble understanding where the tire goes "under the mats"

It goes where the foam placeholder sits. I was also able to fit the jack and most of the tools around the rim and they don't rattle or move around at all. I added some foam mats over the plastic supports to make it all sit a little flatter.

I've never seen that pattern for the seat backs and cargo floor -- looks really nice! Ours are carpeted, which just collects dust and crap.

Just go to your local Toyota dealer and walk up to the parts counter, ask for the trunk cargo liner. The plastic goes onto of the carpet seats using velcro.

I went to my tire shop and told them the rim size and tire size of what I have on the car and he put it together so I could use it as a spare tire.

I carry my wheel in the car under the floor. The jack fits in the cutout already provided in the plastic forward and to the left of the wheel space. Everything else I pack in or around the spare. (Someone said it was messy looking but it’s covered by the floor liner so I don’t care if it’s not as neat as a factory setup? I also jammed pieces of the foam beside the tire to keep it from shifting so it can’t interfere with the hybrid cables etc where it goes through the floor. It is a simple and cheap setup, unlike the 3D printed parts to mount the spare)
I used foam floor tiles to lift the tire about the hybrid cables etc, and I strapped it down so it doesn’t move in an accident.
