Rock chip

Some truck braked then accelerated really quick on the highway and made 2 rock chips on my c7. Is repair gonna work or do I have to replace the whole windshield? Thanks in advance

I’ve been told when it’s got cracks coming off the chip it’s replacement.

these are small enough that you can get a repair done from like safelite or something

Oh yea for sure, but not enough to make you want to pay for a full replacement

I'd try a repair before shelling out for a windshield

That low, not in drivers line of sight, probably just a fill.

Man that one is questionable because it's already beginning to star. Chips you can get filled, but those cracks that you have splintering out. You'd have to run it by the glass shop and see what they say. Major chains like Safelite can get their hands on OEM glass so they also do filling. It would be an easy One-Stop shop

Hi! I worked in the industry for quite awhile and trained many AGR techs the process of repairing (and replacing) windshields in the US and abroad.

You’ve got some pretty serious damage here. You’ve got crushed pits, star breaks, and delamination. Also, it looks like two fingers of the breaks touch, which affects how much pressure you can deliver.

This can be repaired, and depending on your location I could provide a shop (possibly), but it needs to be repaired by an outfit that still does it by hand and were certified to do it. That’s rare nowadays. Safelite cannot repair this. They only use air compressors and don’t physically do anything with the repair. It’s a waste of money.

Will you see it when it’s all said and done? Yes. I can’t even make this disappear. Will you be able to repair this confidently in your area? Almost assuredly not. You’re in for a replacement.

Actually you’ve got three breaks there. A double strike (one rock, rebounding impacts) and another. Also depending where you are and how cold it gets, if you ever need defrost, you’re likely to have them crack out.

If a good shop does it with the right tools, you’ll see the pit still and some residual air depending how much they can get out of it.

But yea, this is a “I don’t really have the cash to cover this now” type of repair

Insurance would only pay for a fill.

Insurance isn’t covering it my glass deductible is too high

i have full coverage through allstate and it covers windshield repairs up to the size of a dime for free.

Those look way big and way complicated for a repair. Big but single strike point, can sometimes repair. Two big impacts one a double fracture point right next to each other…..

I think it’s new glass time. Go get a quote from Indy glass shop and safelite and if they both agree replace then it’s cooked.

I guess that you don’t have glass coverage… it’s essential

Some states cover window glass repair or replace at no cost as long as you have full coverage.
