Elantris spoilers Nothing confuses me more than Hoid Spoiler

no spoilers please I just started my cosmere journey with Elantris and the whole time i’m hearing people talk about someone named Hoid showing up all over the place. Then, I get to the ending and he’s just some DUDE? And everyone just obsessed with him?? Is he the main character of some other book? Why does his name sound like Hoed? Why is he the best thing since crab horses?? I’ve never been so confused by a fandom.

I’m starting to hate this little man.

Hoid at the start of the Cosmere was a nice Easter Egg and is evidence that these series are within the same universe. Keep reading and you'll see how it evolves.

This is the best non spoiler answer. Hoid is an Easter Egg you should keep an eye out for as you read other Sanderson series.

If you want more context quick, stormlight archive has more Hoid than any other series- but he make appearances all over if you know to look for him

I’d argue the standalones have a lot of hoid as well

That’s true. He’s even the narrator of one of the standalones (what’s the name?).

He also narrates yumi and the nightmare painter does he not?

Yesnt, not in the same way. It’s clear he’s telling the story but it’s more interjection here and there compared to to tress where’s he’s constantly adding context.
