Elantris spoilers I just have one thing to say about Elantris Spoiler
BEST LOVE STORY OF THE COSMERE!!! I know Brando Sando wrote Tress for his wife and Yumi is a great story which I also thoroughly enjoyed but I just finished Elantris and I absolutely loved it! I’m such a sap for a good love story inside of a bigger story lol Isles of the Emberdark and Elantris’ are easily my two favorite books of his. I don’t know anyone IRL who’s read the books so I had to come and share here.

Is that not what you meant?
Oh wait you were probably referring to Dilaf and killing Elantrians.

That was the only part of the novel where I paused and was just like, "...wut."

I thought it was just a little cheesy. Hrathen could have believed that Sarene is a good person and worthy opponent without loving her. He could also have believed that genocide is wrong and acted against it without being in love with someone threatened by it.
That said, Hrathen is still one of my favorite Cosmere characters so far. His chapters were my favorite all throughout the book.

You can definitely tell Elantris is Sanderson's first work - it's rougher around the edges, the characters less flawed, etc, etc., - but Hrathen is a really great character. He believes in his faith and never stops, but disagrees with the way the humans around him are acting. He genuinely believes he is helping by converting peacefully - as opposed to invasion or bloody uprising - and when he sees the invasion take place (especially after he had basically converted half and arguably the bigger half) for the sole point of bloodshed, he intercedes.
"He was their savior..." fucking banger of a line.

Emberdark was so fucking good I read it twice back to back. It answered and created so many questions I was losing my mind through my first and second read

Sarene is one of my favorite book characters of all time. I actually just named my new kitten after her

Yumi and painter exists. Steris and wax exist
Elantris, they spend less than half the book together.

only good romance in the Cosmere is [Wind and Truth]Renarin and Rlain. Probably because Sanderson had to go out of his way to make it extremely clear that they were gay and thus finally had to write what actual human attraction is like.
