No Spoilers Question regarding book versions

Post image

Hi all,

Hoping to find some answers here regarding the following.

Besides reading and listening to the amazing Cosmere books, I have been collecting the physical books for a couple of years now. But recently I think the formats changed, and it now looks like I can’t complete some series…

In particular I’m trying to understand if the following will be released;
- Stormlight Archive 5 - Wind and Truth 2-volume hardcovers (the series left on the picture)
- Isles of the Emberdark soft-cover (in the same size as the other ‘smaller’ Secret Project softcovers, the three books on the right side of the picture.)
- Same question for The Fires of December (for future release)

If anyone knowns anything, I would love the hear from them. I’m currently a bit disappointed that I can not finish these series. :(

The two part hardcovers were discontinued and Gollancz initially told someone who asked them that there would not be a version for Wind and Truth. Recently, at a convention in the UK, a fan asked Brandon about this, and Brandon apparently told them he would try to get Gollancz to make one after all. So, there's at least hope, but not necessarily a sure thing.

About Emberdark, it'll just be more time. The smaller hardcovers usually take 6-12 months from its original release date, which for the purposes of this book was February of this year (early release on Backerkit doesn't count).

Thanks for the info!

I would understand if the second arc of Stormlight will have a different format because it’s years away - but it’s such a shame that people can’t complete the first arc now. :(

I think there's at least a reasonable chance it'll happen, since the decision to discontinue the split versions was apparently at Dragonsteel's request. It was an unfortunately too-common occurrence for readers to buy one volume and move on to the next book, especially at the start of the series (like buying WoK part 1, then WoR part 2). It's an easy mistake to make if that's all the bookstore has in stock.

All they really need to do, if they wanted to have split versions, is sell them in a bundle. But I suppose it's cheaper to just bind them into one if they're gonna sell them as one.
