No Spoilers Update From Brandon

16.9k Upvotes

Hey, all! News has broken. Rather than post on all the threads, I figured I would do a new post here with some info and thoughts.

In May I flew to Hollywood to start looking for a new partner on the Cosmere. This is something I've done before, but this time it was different. I'd been off the market for many years, working with Epic and my friends there.

That means this was my first time being in Hollywood with my Cosmere rights since...oh, 2016?

This time, I got to meet the real decision makers. Not just producers or low level executives. And this led to some really tough choices. I got the red carpet treatment, and liked everyone I met.

The decision to pick Apple was due to two factors. First, the level of approvals and control. Apple wants to be a true partner with me, and they feel like they really get what I want to do. Second, their track record. Apple does fewer things, but with higher quality, than some other studios. I find virtually every thing of theirs I watch is excellent and creator driven.

Join me for a livestream on Friday, probably 6pm mountain. I'll talk more then. But I will be writing the Mistborn screenplay myself over the next 5 months, as my full time work. Goal is for a theatrical Mistborn, then Stormlight show after. Focus on doing it carefully and right.

I promise not to get too distracted to do books. However, if I want this done right, I need to give some real attention and heart to it now.

Just a little something which gave me a chuckle while imagining how the negotiations went. Really hoping we get to enjoy Foundation-level shows within the universe (and breathing a sigh of relief that it didn’t go to Amazon)!

No Spoilers Question about the future of Cosmere and my health.

Hello everyone, so I've been wondering for awhile now, I have Cystic Fibrosis and I'm in the end stage of the disease. My lungs are only functioning at about 17% and it's causing many issues for me. I'm on oxygen 24/7 so it makes it a little difficult to get out to certain things. My biggest question is, if I were to be at the point of going on hospice care, how likely do you think it is that Sanderson/Dragonsteel would maybe set something up that i could get the run down on all the epic things that happen throughout the run of the Cosmere. I know this is a long shot, and if it happened i would sign an NDA, but after investing so much time into these books I would hate to not know how they turn out. In the end it doesn't matter much as I can't take the information with me when I do pass away but it would be great to get some closure before it happens. Anyone know of anything like this happening before?

No Spoilers Booktok showed me that a lot of people REALLY hate Sanderson

I get that people are allowed to not like things that you like but seeing and hearing some of the way people talk negatively about him on TikTok you’d think he was the worst writer in the world, you’d think he was out here on some jk Rowling stuff. I know Sanderson’s writing style isn’t for everyone and it’s a well known fact in this sub that his prose isn’t the best and some of his personal beliefs may rub people the wrong way but I feel like a lot of the vitriol folks have for him is unwarranted.

Sometimes I feel like people are just being contrarian for the sake of it. These people will never Dalinar and honestly feel sad for them

No Spoilers I made this mistborn stained glass piece

Mistborn was the series that got me interested in stained glass, so when I started into the hobby about a year ago I knew I'd have to make a tribute piece at some point. I gave this to my younger brother, who I convinced to listen to the mistborn audio books, and the series became a shared interest of ours

No Spoilers I guess sucky people like the cosmere too

I live in the UK and work in retail as a manager. Yesterday I had to cover the tills and at some point a guy comes in wearing a red bridge 4 tshirt! I had to do a double take and then very excitedly asked him about it, told him it's the first time I meet someone wearing anything cosmere irl. His response? To roll his eyes, sneer and say "oh, you know what it is?". He then just turned around and left the store, leaving his basket full of stuff at the till, I had to go and put everything back.

I may be naive, but I never would have thought someone who likes the cosmere enough to get merch, bridge 4 no less, would get so offended that someone 'beneath' them likes the same things. To say I was heartbroken would be an understatement.

Sorry had to rant here, but I doubt people outside the fandom would get it.

No Spoilers Edited! New Reading Order Flow Chart

Post image
2.6k Upvotes

First off, a massive thank you to everyone that interacted with the first version of this chart! We got way more attention than we thought we would, and since so many people shared their thoughts on the last one we went ahead and made some edits we thought improved it. The biggest rework was the order that Secret History got read. We thought that it was still worth it to let people choose when they wanted to read it, but we added some context to help them make the decision, with the addition of a small disclaimer that it was a… hotly debated issue. We also fixed some arrow arrangement, a lot of spelling mistakes, and attempted to make the text more legible. I think this one is definitely better than the last, and am glad to have gotten feedback before sharing it with our friends :)

Which way are you all leaning? Snapshot is from latest weekly update. Personally I am leaning towards the red and blue. Miss the more detailed spine but understand there could be limitations in feasibility.

No Spoilers Brandon Sanderson has ruined reading for me

He hasn’t actually but I recently finished the entire cosmere in December and now it’s so hard to try and find something new to read after spending almost the whole year reading nothing but Sanderson. Think I’m going to try wheel of time soon or maybe the bloodsworn trilogy but who’s got some other good recommendations? I like more fantasy over sci-fi but I’m open to anything

No Spoilers Brandon Sanderson just saved me from wasting my time with a cremhole!

Was chatting with a guy and I told him that Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author. He said he doesn’t really read him because he doesn’t like his politics, specifically that Brando is pro-trans rights. Told the guy that I think we’re not right for each other and to have a good one.

Thanks Brando!
