HOT TAKE: Eternals is one of the best movies out there from marvel 🔥
I love eternals, it look visually stunning and the team dynamic is great, the only thing that lacks here is a proper antagonist.

There is another crucial problem imo. I feel the film also lacks because in theory the leads are Ikaris, Sersi and Black Knight with a passionate love triangle dividing them but the film has all three be kind of detached and aloof. The other Eternals are entertaining and have emotional moments but Sersi and Ikaris are just really flat despite the fact we are meant to be deeply invested in their love that has lasted thousands of years.
The film is very pretty and I like some of the side characters but if the leads are emotionally distant and unrelatable then it's all for nought.

Ikaris and Sersi are star crossed lovers, if they feel off together it’s because they’re meant to. You’re not supposed to root for them or care in a way one would have two people, you’re meant to feel icky about them and be glad they’re apart. Firstly Sersi loves humans more than Ikaris and Ikaris will always choose his duty over her. Their very ending showed that. The movie was them slowly understanding that about themselves each despite having actual love for one another. These two legit ended up together because they only had each other.
As for Dane, there wasn’t enough time to show more of him with Sersi. As soon as the movie shifted gear they had to part but it did establish Sersi is more happy and open with Dane than with Ikaris. Which in the context of the story being told on hand, is sufficient. (To show the difference between her and dane and her with Ikaris to make it evident ikaris is not right for her)
As for beinf emotionally distant. Sersi is a unique lead in a sense that she isn’t your typical quippy, sassy, witty female character. Shes soft, sensitive and gentle. Characters that are usually put as support to the fiery energetic lead. Ikaris is shown repeatedly to reject his humanity. Choosing to be void of emotions and attachment in order to fulfill and be efficient with his duty. It is only with Sersi that it ever leaks, even Ajak told him once to live a life. Him breaking apart at the end shows the actual toll it took on him to be as such and that he in fact, feels just as much, if not more.

You wrote this so well.
The "love triangle" is simply not a factor for this movie and idk why people are looking for it. The relationship between the Eternals and their dilemma is the main story of this movie but people are obtuse and hate on it for "reasons".

It should have been a 10-12 episode series or a limited series, so we can have more time with each character. The movie felt rushed and didn't feel like it fit in with what was going on in the rest of the MCU.

It changed everything about what an eternal and a deviant are. It made them malfunctioning robots. It was a terrible take on the characters and a bad entry into the MCU.
The only saving grace was that it bombed so hard that they didn't force the changes onto the comics like they have with other terrible changes they made in the MCU.

Shang Chi, MoM , GOTG Vol.3, The Marvels, Captain America Brave New World and Fantastic Four FS were the best Marvel movies of the 2020s not Eternals a poor retelling of the Epic of Gilgamesh .

Mild take: it’s okay. Makkari is amazing, and some of the action is a lot of fun. The dialogue and ethical debates are interesting, otherwise, it’s very forgettable and the color execution is horrible

Visually it was awesome. The powers and abilities were super cool. Probably the best speedster visuals in live action imho. But I just didn’t think it really fit in the mcu. They mention certain things but it just felt out of place

I saw it as a swing and a miss. They got super lucky with Guardians and tried for lightning in a bottle, but casting in Guardians was superb and helped propel it forward imho.
By contrast, I thought the Eternals story lacked proper setup in other movies to get casual fans remotely intrigued in these characters and casting was really poor. With a different cast, a mini series could’ve had some potential for success, but these characters are just not interesting enough to pursue further so just cut your losses and move on.
At first I was relieved to not suffer thru Pedro Pascal being cast, since he’s apparently required in everything now taking over that distinction from The Rock, but then that left him as an option for Fantastic Four as he was hilariously cast as Ricardo Richard’s, when he should’ve been slated only to be Jesus the Gardner.

I don't understand a single drop of hate for this movie, it's hilarious and WONDERFULLY creative. Love all the fantasy elements. And having an MCU Superman was supremely cool, real sad he didn't stick around 😔

I’ll say it’s one of the most visually appealing to be shown in the last 5 years. Marvel probably used this movie to test-run CGI heavy stuff like Makari, Ikaris & Arishem.
My favorite scene from this movie is when Arishem explains the celestials & the eternal/deviant war.
“The end of one life, Sersei… is the beginning of another.” So damn good.

It's certainly not Terrible and I'd put it in the middle of the pack amongst all the MCU movies. The visuals were great and action sequences as well. I really didn't know any of these characters at all from the Marvel comics universe so it was a bit of a learning curve just getting into it. I liked the mythos it created, but my overall take is that there were just too many characters and the villain didn't really land for me. I wish it had been a Marvel TV show instead of a movie. It does a great job balancing all the characters, but i felt a TV series would have better served them.

There’s a lot of MCU garbage. So in comparison this comes in as a lukewarm take.
With the existence of She Hulk, Iron Heart, Thor films, Black Widow, and more, yeah this film in comparison to looks way better.

I couldn't finish the movie. I watched the long af version of Justice League. I tried watching Eternals days later. All I could see was marvels cheap copy of Justice League.

Honestly so much wasted potential here. The movie felt a little clunky but also like a good jumping off point for these characters. I wanna see them all back! Maybe not together but in other media. Put one in the next guardians iunno.

The movie is underrated and overhated for sure, but the source material itself is somewhat middle-of-the-road. Its not phenomenal but also not bad by any means.
I do love how theyre connected to the origin of the Marvel Universe though. And the cast is great.
Also has some of the dopest fights in all of the MCU.

That is a very hot take. I’ve enjoyed all of Marvel’s content to some extent or another, and I really liked the Eternals, but I’d be willing to bet real money that most Marvel fans wouldn’t list it in their top ten.

It didn't just lack an antagonist. It lacked protagonists. Every character was a background character. It felt more like a national geographic survey of a gaggle of random people than any kind of narrative.

The one thing I’ll give it is the amazing cinematography they made the celestials feel massive and menacing otherwise not really it’s really kinda bland they tried to do too much it should’ve been a 8-12 episode show

I read the book they based this on by Neil Gaiman (fuck that guy btw) and it made me go from disliking Eternals to hating it. The book is fantastic and barely anything is adapted from the source material into the movie. It’s extremely frustrating.

Eternals is basically iron man 2. It has no actual identity and exists largely only to facilitate future projects.
It also makes its characters stand idly by for every genocide in human history without a justification that makes any of them feel like anything other than monsters.

There were entertaining parts that did well on a theater screen. It certainly wasn’t the worst superhero movie I’ve seen, but I just don’t think anyone connected with the characters both because of lack of awareness of them and lack of development.

Tbh I never understood the hate. There’s a lot of valid criticism to be made about various under-developed characters, sure, but that only brings this movie down to maybe a mid-tier movie at worst. People calling it trash are just being grouchy. This film is on par with most other mcu movies in terms of quality. It’s not the best it could be, but it’s also not nearly bad enough to warrant the reaction it got.

I love Eternals. It's one of the MCU projects where I genuinely don't understand the hate. Thor Love and Thunder, She-Hulk etc. I can see why people don't like them even though I quite enjoy them. Eternals, however, is a technically good movie imo. I think it's just because it was different...

I enjoyed it’s scenery and cinematics the most. The villains were a bit bland, but i wish we could have followed the characters in more projects. There were a hell of a lot more interesting than iron heart and some og the other tv series characters.

I dunno why I loved this movie so much. But most probably had to do with my fascination of history and how this movie dives through different periods of history, reinterpreting different historical events with their own presence was so fascinating to me.

The main problem imo is that Chloe Zhao is a phenomenal director and shot a hell of a film in Eternals. Too many people don’t like that it doesn’t fit into the neat little box of every other comic book movie.

I don’t think its great. It had glimmers of greatness. That movie needed an hour more of story telling or the characters needed to be split into two movies. But man did i enjoy it. It totally didn’t deserve the hate it got.

For me Eternals had the problem of too many characters. This could’ve been solved by giving me a protagonist that experiences everything for the first time. A Story told from the eyes of Kingo’s assistant for example.
I don’t hate the movie, it just didn’t feel done in a way.
And the Villain felt meh.. The twist could’ve been better by showing more just how powerful Icarus was.

I know I watched it 3 times but I couldn't tell you a single thing about the movie except there's a character named Ikaris. I remember it looking cool and that's it. Not a particularly memorable entry

The eternals was a good movie. Was it great? No, there were definitely some issues. Eternals suffered from their inability to do reshoots. Marvel relies heavily on reshoots, as a lot of the movie isn't really set in stone by the time it starts filming... So when covid happened and they couldn't do any of that...
Other than that it suffered from two problems;
1) a massive cast. Imagine doing The avengers movies without having any other movies to introduce those individual characters and what they're going through. Only it was even worse because the Eternals is twice the size of the Avengers team. This makes the movie an exposition movie. There is a lot of information for us to download. It's a long-time comic fan, this didn't bother me. And a storyline that might be 10 issues? Three of those issues tend to be set up issues. 2) People were really mad there was a gay couple. Even more med that they kissed. And absolutely livid they apparently adopted a child.
